Gone Baby Gone (2007)

I'm relatively late to the party here with this review, but I finally looked at Gone Baby Gone after some high praise from some friends. And the high praise was certainly warranted.

Have you ever had trouble getting your little brother to do what you tell him to? If you want to make him listen to you, direct a movie and put your little brother in the lead role. That's what Ben Affleck did to his younger brother Casey in Gone Baby Gone, and what a great film they turned out together...with a star-studded supporting cast who all turn in A-List performances.

Gone Baby Gone is intense. There's good suspense. There's a great story with unexpected twists. And the movie doesn't sugar-coat the plot with outcomes that will please viewers. Ben Affleck delivers some harsh realities in the lives of some folks that you'll be glad that you're not after seeing Gone Baby Gone.

Thoroughly entertaining crime drama about a young child that goes missing from a tough Boston neighborhood. See it.

Gone Baby Gone

A couple years ago "Crash" got all kinds of accolades but although I enjoyed it I wasn't nearly as impressed as I am with "Gone Baby Gone". I give this four and a half stars which I don't give many dramas. Maybe it's because this is truly gritty and it just feels far more realistic and less made up. Add to that this has excellent acting and story and you have probably one of the best dramas you will see for awhile. When a baby or small child is kidnapped most communities gather to help. We see that unfold in this story. A small detective agency, a local young man and his girlfriend, have had some success in finding kids. The grandmother of the child pleads with them to investigate the case. They decide to try and tackle this media overblown kidnapping. The local police aren't happy about outside involvement but allow it to placate the family. However, what we may not expect are the twist and turns this investigation uncovers even after the case has gone cold. Well worth at least a rental. Good quality DVD with good replayability. If you enjoyed this catch "The Departed" and "American History X". July 15, 2008

Fantastic movie!

This was far and away one of the best movies I have seen lately. I was completely absorbed. Those Affleck brothers are very talented (who knew Ben could direct so well)? There are twists to this movie that will keep you glued. Exceptional. Give it a try. July 13, 2008

Heartwrenching movie that will definitely make you cry.

I think that Ben Affleck is not so much as an actor, but as a director, he is amazing. I love that he included real people from Boston to be in this movie and the accents were obviously very realistic. I think Casey is a very good actor. Morgan Freeman is good as always. Ed Harris, I love. The movie was kinda dark, and the ending really ticked me off. If I was his girlfriend, I would have left him also. The little girl was happy and healthy and so much better off with Morgan Freeman. Her mother was trash. She didn't change, because they don't change. He was standing by some idealistic crap that just ended up costing him his relationship and a chance for a real future for that little girl. July 11, 2008

Love the Discomfort

A lot of people here said they hated this movie because they hated the ending. That's how you're SUPPOSED to feel! I love complicated stuff, and this movie is full of complications. Issues of morality and what exactly is the "right thing" pervade the plot and really make you think. Definitely a movie that carries a lot of baggage but doesn't seem to hit you over the head with it. Love that. July 9, 2008
