I have always considered myself more than just a fan of Cyndi Lauper. Admirer of a hometown recording artist who is unequivocally one of the most pleasant and emotionally stimulating female recording artists more accurately begins to describe my appreciation for Cyndi's unusual but fervently impressive contributions to her legions of fans and the music business, of great need now of her talents. Time after Time became an anthem replete with a luring type of sensuality and musical acuity. Having lived on the Upper Upper West Side of Manhattan which is still one of the five boroughs although some consider the island to be New York in and of itself, I was exposed to the seminal Doo Wop artists like Dion and later Frank Valli from Hoboken and Benny King from Harlem evolving years later to musicians and recording artists like Laura Nyro, Carol King(although her fist input was way back in Tin Pan Alley and the Brill Building). New York City, Philadelphia and Detroit were music marketplaces in those days , spawning the most incredible, soul, jazz, pop and folk rock artists that we have ever seen in our lives. From my neighborhood came Suzanne Vega. And as we New Yorkers in a very inappropriate directional disposition say "out" in Queens came Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi to me, as I viewed this DVD at my sister's house in San Francisco is all special delivery. She captivates her audience in this DVD because she has a powerful and special voice yet a noticeably sensual presentation and of course the song writing is everlasting and exceptional. My sister will not relinquish her copy and that's okay because even though I have already seen it, unlike other DVDs that you throw in a slot after a couple of visits, I want this one for my Long Island home. For those readers who are not from the Tri-State area, interestingly enough, Queens is attached to Long Island. I am so proud that I not only have a mutual love of music but even a geographical attachment to Cyndi Lauper. To true aficionados of real good music, Cyndi is the songstress of choice.

I purchased this because I am a huge fan of Cyndi Lauper. I have most of her albums. However the real reason I purchased this is because I have another concert video of her (Cyndi Lauper live in Paris)done in the 80's. She is backed by an awesome band that boasts Rick Derringer as lead guitar and backup vocals. I don't want to turn this into a review of the Paris video, but... it is possibly one of the best concerts I have ever witnessed, and I was at woodstock! Not the film, the concert. Cyndi, much younger starts the concert with Change of Heart and then goes right into the Goonies song, Good Enough. She never stops twirling and spinning, jumping... a real sight to behold. I wasnt expecting that when I bought this DVD, but I was expecting more. It just seems like Cyndi has moved to the Night Club type of venue. Yes,I know that she is older, and she's a mom now, but what does that mean. Damn, Bette Middler is 8 years older than Cindi but acts much younger. I like the DVD because I love Cyndi Lauper, but I really expected more. It also seems like she wants this to be her image because she seemed to put a lot of herself into this DVD. For example, included in the bonus features is this segment where Cyndi and a friend shoot some footage to be used in the DVD. She filmed this footage from her neighborhood either herself, or with a friend. It seems very personal, this DVD. Anyway, I expected to be rivited to my chair watching this. I was entertained, and she still has a great voice, but the Paris concert changed my life! I still rate this 4 stars!!! -John October 11, 2007
