What happens when you throw Robert De Niro, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and previously unknown to me (but nevertheless very good) Charlie Cox together into a modern fairy tale comedy?

Dynamite.

'Stardust,' though unconventional it may be, will probably reduce you to fits of uncontrollable giggles, all the while charming, chilling and chuckling it's way to classically porportional success, both as a fantasy adventure and a laugh out loud comedy.

Charlie Cox plays Tristan, a young lover determined to retrieve a fallen star in return for his sweetheart's hand in marriage. But in order to get it, he will encounter princes fighting for the throne, a witch determined to beat him to the star and a gay pirate (Robert De Niro...huh?)

Just sit back and watch it shine! June 28, 2008

There was SO much talk about how this movie was 'Princess Bride' for the next generation- and it was said as if it wasn't up to the task. As if Stardust was a remake of Princess Bride. That sort of talk kept me from seeing the movie for quite a while. I finally watched it last night with my wife and we were both utterly blown away! This movie was one of those movies you're watching and hoping beyond hope that they don't drop the ball in the next scene because 'so far...' it's perfect. They never drop that ball. From start to finish it's one of the best movies I've seen in ten years. All the 'Princess Bride' talk is strictly because it's a fairytale movie- that's pretty much where the line between the two stops. I'd recommend this to anybody at any age. Easily a 'top ten' favorite movie! June 26, 2008

rating: 5 Quoteat least as good as the bookQuote
It's the movie version of the book by Neil Gaiman, about a star that fell to earth (Claire Danes) and the young man (Charlie Cox) who sets out on a quest to find her.

It's seldom that I think a movie is better than the book it's based on, and that's not really the case here, either, but I did enjoy the movie slightly more. The book is a wonderful fairy tale, but the movie is a vivid rendition of it. It's how I pictured the book as I read it, only brighter, shinier, more alive.

I know I'm not making sense, but it's just a gorgeous fantasy movie, and one that's not dumbed down for the preschool set--you really don't see movies like this very often. I absolutely loved it. June 26, 2008

I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie.
I came away impressed and I've watched it quite a few time since.
The movie is beautiful, the fx are done very well without being overpowering.
The story is good without falling into the "too cute" or "corny" categories.
The acting it all top notch.
Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeifer are fantastic.
Overall, I'd recommend this movie to just about anyone.
It's cute, it's fun, it's a great way to kill an evening.
Recommended.

This is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. The plot, characters, actors, basically everything is wonderful. Such classic love stories are hard to find these days. June 25, 2008
