The Mod Squad is my favorite show of all time, and I watched the whole DVD set in one weekend reliving my childhood! It is an awesome DVD set, and I enjoyed the interviews and extra features that it offers. I've already bought Season 1 Volume 2, and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Season 2.
If you grew up with The Mod Squad, this is a must purchase; if you didn't watch it then, you should buy this and watch it now; and you should definitely introduce your kids to Pete, Linc, Julie, and Captain Greer! It is a good, clean, show the whole family can enjoy together! May 27, 2008
| "Solid" acting and writing, and still relevant |
(And, to my pleasant surprise, even the street talk and apparel have a coolness that just begs a comeback or reinvention.)
Like many TV shows, The Mod Squad addressed perennial issues such as the generation gap, exploitation of idealists by crooks, the moral dilemmas of young cops, family breakdown, and race relations.
Unlike other shows, however, The Mod Squad didn't mock the Sixties counter-culture -- rather, it dared to truthfully and sympathetically explain the youth culture on prime-time television at a time when networks were afraid to televise content that was more challenging than, say, "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie."
Since the Vietnam War, the United States has suffered from its failure (perhaps its refusal?) to understand rival values that divided the country in the late Sixties. Instead, those values have been parodied or mocked.
The Mod Squad bridges the values gap by truthfully weighing the dilemmas of young cops who stand astride the generation gap and social and racial divisions.
The Mod Squad is well worth the high retail price, which I assume is set high for TV shows that will sell to niche audiences rather than mass market. The Mod Squad is not "Married... With Children," and I for one am more than willing to pay for top-quality programming.
