About Lionel Richie: Live in Paris
In May 2007 Lionel Richie and a film crew convened in Paris France to document a show by the legendary singer at the Bercy Arena. I don't know if this is what 5.1 surround sound is like if you only have two speakers (standard stereo), if so I would be surprised.
Lionel puts on a good show, he really gets the crowd going and age is no barrier to him performing well - all the correct notes are hit and he sounds as good now as he did in the 1970's.
I was looking forward to the well known song "Endless Love", but this was the only disappointing performance for me - he only performed half the song and he got the crowd to do all the female (Diana Ross) parts of the song - great crowd interaction, but you never got to appreciate this pretty song.
In summary, a great concert, great video and very average audio, which is a shame. I am sure Lionel would be disappointed with these comments on this modern recording. September 30, 2008
| Hey Lionel! Lend me your RIGHT ear! Why doesn't someone Please fix this thing? |
However...
This weekend when we went to play it, we found we have the very same 'no Left channel during the concert' problem many of you seem to be suffering with. So just to let those out there who are wondering know, it's not limited to Amazon copies. Besides that, what a disappointment it was to hear him singing short partial-mini-half versions of our most favorite LR ballads, and yes, the video quality could have been better.
I will say on the Pro-side that the concert had some really great & funky (in the good way) moments. Like many of you, I'd really like to get my hands on a decent, full channel copy that I THOUGHT I had already paid for. Better yet, why don't they just go ALL the way and Blu-ray this sucker? (Fat chance, I know...but a man can dream, CAN'T HE?)
Some of you have said that you contacted the producers, emailed the record company, and have even left messages at Lionel's web page with no response. Well, the producers & record companies not getting back to us, I can understand. They don't care about anything but the bottom line, so that's expected. But Lionel on the other hand not taking a mere couple minutes to speak to his fans about this issue (...and yes, I understand he's a busy dude being 'Lionel Richie' and all), is just plain sad to say the least.
(If he does say something about it in the near future I'll gladly take it back!)
Truth is, at this point it looks like no one is willing to step up to the plate and take responsibility (and the 'hit') for this one because as we all know, it's gonna cost some BIG BUCKS to do a reissue and for what it's worth, I just don't see that happening.
But Truth is Stranger than Fiction!
If YOU who are reading this RIGHT NOW are in a position to do a little 'Magic' & Light the Fire under the pot, Please help us LR fans and do the right thing by getting this one reissued!
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Paul September 21, 2008
