About The Catherine Tate Show - Series One
Am I bovvered?
Meet the opinionated, manipulative NAN, the AGA SAGA WOMAN who simply can t cope with major disasters like a dropped egg cleaver, PAUL AND SAM the impossibly excited couple, BUNTY the Doncaster Spinners' oldest majorette, MARGARET who is frightened of her own shadow, BERNIE the Irish nurse, Ben and Karen the sleep starved NEW PARENTS, ELAINE FIGGIS the eternal romantic engaged to a convicted murderer on Death Row, LAUREN the teenager who never backs down and is never Bovvered and many others.
One of the BBC's most popular comedy stars, Catherine Tate's ascension to fame has been rapid but definitely well-deserved. Her sketch show features an eclectic collection of comedy creations; from Cockney Nan to the outspoken schoolgirl, Lauren, Tate's characters are all the more funny because they remind us of people in everyday life.
Catherine Tate made her mark with a number of supporting roles (Big Train, Barking, TvGoHome and others) and a starring role in Wild West before graduating to this intriguing self-named series. Part simple comedy, part biting satire, the first series served to underline Tate's versatility and dazzling aptitude for inhabiting the skin of a wide-ranging cast of characters of various ages. Best are Lauren Cooper, the modern-day teenage schoolgirl constantly troubled by current parlance (infecting the country with the catchphrase 'Am I bovvered?'), and Nan Taylor, the cockney granny who, while appearing to be pleasant, is actually a foul-mouthed racist.
