the whole plot that he made a movie about his life is just weird. he in a way embaerassed his ex-fiance by showing he didn't choose her. i personally liked katie (bledel) better than jill in the first place.
and to top it all off the main character (reed fish) was just plain unlikeable. though alexis did a great job playing the town sweetheart getting dumped... i would next time just skip this movie and watch her in something better. don't waste your time on it. July 20, 2008

| Nice but a little lame |
As this is a feel-good movie, all must end well. The hero must get the girl of his dreams. But it does feel a bit lame that after the breakdown of the wedding, Fish and his ex-fiancee can remain such good friends. It is hard to imagine that she can carry on a platonic friendship with the guy who dashes her dreams and breaks her heart.
Another lame factor is Fish making his life into a movie. This will undoubtedly tear apart old scars and make them bleed again; but then, as in all feel-good movies, all's well that ends well.
I cannot say that the acting is mediocre, but the actors do not seem to be given too much space to 'strut their stuff.' Alexis Bledel is beautiful, too beautiful in fact to make it believable that a gorgeous babe like that would be willing to commit her life to a guy like Reed Fish.
Overall, this is a nice movie to enjoy on a weekend with either the family or friends over some popcorn. But guys beware, if your girlfriends or fiancees are overly sensitive, this movie might not be a good idea! April 29, 2008

| You're on the FISH! |
Since taking over the Voice job from his Dad, Reed's become the town's Mr. Fixit. He knows who to call and what to say to get the small-town government working for its citizenry.
He's marrying Kate (Alexis Bledel), the darling of Mud Flats, a girl who's 'almost like family' already. Her Dad's big excitement is smoking an illegal cigar. And she expects Reed to get excited about wedding color schemes, food, etc.
It's just too perfect--something or someone--has to upset the apple cart. That would be Jill (Schuyler Fisk), his ex-girlfriend from HS, who went away to college. She's a pragmatic girl who believes happy endings only happen in movies.
What ensues is chaotic and funny. Reed has to learn how he defines his life--rather than the town, etc.
Of particular note is the soundtrack. Fisk sings a couple of songs and has a very nice voice.
My only serious gripe with this funny indie film is the DVD is dark enough that I had to fiddle with the contrast fairly radically to get it to look right. It was worth the trouble. January 17, 2008
