Average user review:I was in the first generation of Saturday Night Live and followed the careers of its first great comics -- Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi and Bill Murray -- and stepped away from the show way before Eddie Murphy showed up. So Will Ferrell, whom many 30-somethings today think is the metaphor os silly comedy, never registered with me. I've not had interest in any of his films. I watched this one at the request of a friend going through tough times who told me it was a lot better than he expected. Turns out the film reminded me some of a movie from a similar time in Murray's career called "Stripes" about the star going into the Army.
You probably already know the "Blades of Glory" storyline: rival figure skaters Ferrell and prissy Jon Heder torment each other and fight during a skating World Championships award cermemony and are stripped of their ability to compete for life as individuals. After unsatisfactory careers away from the spotlight, they exploit a loophole come back as a two-man doubles team using an oddball collection of moves. They recommect with an old coach, begin training in a meat locker, and you can probably guess the rest. There's a lot silly sexual innuendo and nice romance involved, too. And, as he has in other films, Ferrell is more than happy to show off his beer gut.
This movie reminded me a lot of other sports comedies like "Cool Runnings" and "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story". It wasn't as good as the first one and wasn't as filthy as the second but shared elements of both -- bad guys with good hearts, tragedy turned to triumph, and an overriding feeling of lightness and silliness that ensures you are entertained all the time. The movie has a lot of authentic ice skating people in it and some famous sportscasters, too. I doubt this is done to give authenticity to the flick, which no one will confuse with reality moviemaking.
The production values are all pretty good and everything is well lit so no action escapes you on those grounds. There are plenty of laughs on hand, most due to Ferrell's antics and the counterpoint between his roughneck, hard drinking, sexual and out there character and the blond, prissy, good two shoes character John Heder portrays. Craig Nelson plays the role of coach, of course, in his typical style. It's a good cast with some laughs that should get you through a night when you're looking for something light, funny, predicatable and forgettable. April 9, 2008
rent, dont buy
Blades of Glory is funny the first time around, but isn't worth owning or watching more than twice. If you want to see Will Farrell at his best you're better off buying Zoolander, and for Jon Heder stick with Napoleon Dynamite (which is more of a social statement than a comedy).Long story short, rent Blades of Glory but no need to own it. Will being his typical self, but not a bad thing in this case
I'm not a Will Ferrell fan (by ANY stretch of the imagination) but Blades of Glory managed to entertain me a LOT more than I thought it would, probably due to the fact it had many other actors and actresses to take time away from Will's annoying character. It's AMAZING to me how many of them I recognized!
Speaking of Will's character, like always, he tries to be funny by repeatedly saying stupid things over and over, and once again, it doesn't work for me. Yes, I realize many people like him as an actor, but for me, he just isn't good enough.
So, Blades of Glory offers some quality entertainment, and the story about two guy skaters making it big and getting the opportunity to win a gold medal offered many funny bits. Worth watching. March 24, 2008
Blades Of Glory
Blades of Glory directed by William Speck and Josh Grobon, a comedic movie about two professional male ice-skaters rivalry Chazz Michaels who is played by Will Ferrel and Jimmy MacElory who is played by Jon Heder (both are very funny actors). In this movie they pass their own morals and worked hard to become the ultime pair skaters. This movie is priced at around seventeen dollars. Since this movie is rated PG13 ,it's not a good movie for the whole family,Some extras on this movie include: Deleted Scenes, Gag Reel , The Making of Blades, Movie Fon Unscripted (with Will Ferrel , Jon Heder and Will Arnet), and Twenty Questions with Scott Hamilton. I give this movie two thumbs up. Skate over and see this movie it's very hilarious!

Wicked
Sweet movie. What can I say it's Will Ferrell. He is MY favorite actor. He plays as a ice skater. He becomes fiends with one of his skater rivals. They skate together as the first male and male skaters. MUST BUY !! March 11, 2008
