About Taira Clan Saga / Tales of the Taira clan / Shin Heike Monogatari

Mizoguchi's last color film was this rich and spectacular epic which examined the conflict between the ruling courts, the powerful monks and the exploited warrior class at the end of the twelfth century. The samurai leaders of the Taira Clan return victorious from fighting for their Emperor. Instead of recognition and reward, they are cheated and dishonored by the high courtiers who do not want to see the samurai warriors empowered. The samurai are forced to choose sides and re-examine their loyalties, ethics, codes of honor and their positions in a changing world. Product Description

The last reviewer must've been unlucky enough to get a bad disk, the copy I received works fine.
An excellent film about the transition to samurai rule, well worth a watch. January 10, 2008

This looks like a really great movie and I would have given it at least four stars but it will not play until the end. It has a really great story line and follows Japanese History pretty close. the company that produced this copy New York Film Annex NYFA did a very poor job of reproduction. I have three different DVD players one with both region one and region two capibilities none of them will play the movie till the end. the New York Film Annex NTFA should not be allowed to sell on Amazon again.
