About Stevie Nicks: Live at Red Rocks

Set against the raw majesty of Colorado's Red Rocks amphitheatre, this 1987, post-Fleetwood Mac concert by Stevie Nicks is pure rock & roll cabaret. Backed by the lapidary if impersonal arrangements of her sizable band, including ubiquitous session man Waddy Wachtel (Jackson Browne, Keith Richards) on guitar, Rick Marotta on drums, and mood-setter Jai Winding at keyboards, Nicks's dusky, chanteuse vocals bear down hard on this program's nine selections. Hard, but not always interestingly. Sorely missing is the rare alchemy of a real band like Mac, in which Nicks's irresistible status as grandiloquent white witch and heel- stomping rocker enlivens, and is enlivened by, the reciprocal quirks of fellow members. In this star-focused setting, Nicks doesn't get to dance freely on the ledges of Lindsey Buckingham's maniacal palaces. Her responsibility is to anchor a more predictable enterprise, and while that certainly doesn't dull Nicks's commitment, it obscures her artistry and makes her show look like a self-tribute at a supper club. Highlights include a driving cover of pal Tom Petty's "I Need to Know," a bluesy "Talk to Me," and a touching "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You." A still photograph of Nicks and Mick Fleetwood (who adds percussion at a couple of points) that kind of dissolves in and out during "Beauty and the Beast" is embarrassing, but makes it perfectly clear what that particular tune is about. Peter Frampton shows up for an encore of "Edge of Seventeen," as do a bunch of white-winged doves someone releases from the audience, one of which finds refuge in Nicks's palm and decides to stay awhile. Ahh, rock's very own Snow White. --Tom Keogh Amazon.com

Stevie Nicks: Live at Red Rocks
Stevie at her best. Mick Fleetwood, and special appearance by Peter Frampton. This is the best vocal by Stevie that I've had the pleasure of hearing. She is sexy, tough, always a lady and belts them out with the best of them. She is a Diva before the name was thrown about by everyone in the music business. "White Wing Dove" is introduced by the letting go of actual white doves during the start of the performance. If you are a Stevie Nicks fan you must have this DVD, you will enjoy every moment and the many songs that made her and Fleetwood Mac a household name and still wows audiances again and again. Experience the music! March 7, 2008

A classic performance from the reigning Queen of Rock and Roll.
It must be frustrating to people who knock Stevie Nicks: she just won't go away! For over 30 years, this lady has sold millions of records and sold out concerts, with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. Yet some people still try to knock her. Let's put it this way: of her female(and male for that matter) contemporaries such as Pat Benatar, Heart, Blondie, and The Pretenders, who charted at #5 and sold 2 million copies to date of their latest CD in 2001 and had the #7 tour of 2001? Stevie Nicks. Who had the #1 world tour of 2003? Fleetwood Mac. While her former popular contemporaries(Many of whom I like a lot) play rodeos, cruise ships and state fairs, Stevie Nicks sells out arenas. Why? This concert video is a great explanation, especially during the end credits of Stevie shaking hands and interacting with her adoring fans. Both seem equally touched. Stevie isn't fake. She hasn't had her 10th face lift, upteenth botox injections or done the "Cher" thing. She has survived 30 years of rock stardom, kicked drugs, lost over 60 pounds, and kicked smoking. She doesn't try to be "hip", nor does she change her image the way Madonna(not knocking her) does. Stevie is Stevie. That is why we love her and that is why she will always remain a rock and roll legend. December 31, 2007

Stevie Nicks at Red Rock is a must have for all Musicians, and anyone interested in the Women who plowed the fields of America to make way for those to follow without giving up or giving in for anything. And it also has other Musicians who played a part in the History and the Present times of the continuation of Music the healing Power of the soul of the world.Waddy Watchel, who has been around for many years with many Musicians here in America. The British were there to support the historical event,Peter Framton, and Michael (Mick)Fleetwood.Sharon Celani who is one of Stevie Nicks permanent backup singers and Lori Nicks another permanent backup singer of Stevie Nicks and sisterinlaw. With the most extactic audience I have ever seen for a concert, which tells the tale in its self of what a spetacular performance, for this D/V/D.If you don`t have this in your collection you are missing a big piece of the musical puzzle of why we have the Music we have today.~Peace Glenna MacDonald~ November 11, 2007

Go ahead and listen to the "Stand Back" track with a pair of good quality IEM (In-Ears-Monitors), Etymotic ER4 or better, and u will be blown away by the intro drums work. The video of this particular track is well choreographed and shot, just superb. Only thing missing is a 5.1 track. October 16, 2007
