About Hogan's Heroes - The Complete Series

Despite a historically and morally questionable premise the 1960s sitcom HOGAN'S HEROES was wildly popular during its premiere run and continues to be one of the great classic (not to mention utterly unique) comedy series. Set in a Nazi prison camp during World War II the series follows a group of Allied POWs--Englishman Peter Newkirk (a pre-FAMILY FEUD Richard Dawson) Frenchman Louis LeBeau (Robert Clary) and Americans Andrew Carter (Larry Hovis) and James Kinchloe (Ivan Dixon one of the first African-American actors to get equal billing)--led by the irrepressible Colonel Robert Hogan (Bob Crane) in their hilarious attempts to sabotage the Nazi war effort. Though often mischaracterized as a tasteless gloss on the real-life horrors of Nazi Germany (the series was set in a prisoner-of-war camp not a concentration camp) HOGAN'S HEROES was intended as parody and certainly pulled no punches in its unflattering depiction of idiotic Nazi officers such as the pompous Colonel Klink (Werner Klemperer) bumbling Sergeant Schultz (John Banner) and irascible General Burkhalter (Leon Askin)--in fact Klemperer Banner and Askin were all Jewish and Clary was a Holocaust survivor. This collection presents the series in its entirety for a total of six seasons.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097361301648 Manufacturer No: 130164 Product Description

One of the best collections of historic TV! In the extras, you'll find Bob Crane as a radio DJ and his widow (Fraulein Hilda) explaining home movies. It's really cool and well-preserved. Great price, too. September 27, 2008

Predictable, but an entertaining piece of yesteryear. I fondly remember growing up with Hogan's and am happy to share this gift with the present generation, without commercials. It is a piece of comforting silliness in our less than silly world of the moment.

John Banner is especially hilarious!

I purchased this series for my husband who was a huge Hogan's Heroes fan. He has watched all of them already and enjoyed seeing them again. I would recommend them. August 15, 2008

I bought the entire set of Hogan's Heroes and have been watching them over and over again. These episodes bring back such great memories as I used to watch the series when the show originally aired on tv. My favorite on the show was always the late, talented BOB CRANE as the irresistable Colonel Hogan. I loved his quick wit and golden tongue when it came to manipulating Kommandant Klink and/or Sergeant Schultz. BOB CRANE was a brillant comedic actor with a great future ahead of him, but he suffered from a terrible addiction which destroyed him. As an actor, he is missed, but, thank God we have these DVDs to be able to watch and enjoy the performance of a talented actor. August 2, 2008
