About The Beast

The master of sea terror, Peter Benchley, returns with another salty tale of aquatic mayhem! Rocked by mysterious deaths and disappearances, a small fishing village looks to Whip Dalton (Emmy nominee William L. Petersen) to get to the bottom of it. rating: 3 Quotenot as good as the tv versionQuote
Although when it came out on tv it was a really good movie the videa seems to have left out certain areas, so I'm a little displeased with the DVD version. Hopefully someone will correct this oversight in the future!! June 30, 2008

While not a masterpiece, I really like giant monster movies, and big squids are pretty cool. This DVD was the shorter version. I have since gotten the longer 2 disc version, but I must mention that the 2nd disc is not cared for, the first time disc 2 was scratched deep and the 2nd time upon the exchange for it the disc was loose.
The print is no better no worse than the VHS print, and I am trying to replace VHS as much as possible so I got the DVD..
This movie is better than Eye of the Beast also with a giant Squid which doesnt appear until the end... June 25, 2008

As for "The Beast": I loved the original mini-series, but way too much footage was cut from the DVD version. The resulting movie seemed rushed and choppy. What's more, some of my favorite scenes were missing, including the night scene when the giant squid came near to shore.

I enjoyed the DVD just enough to give it two stars. But I would not have purchased this DVD if I had known about the cutting room hatchet job. June 10, 2008

I was disappointed because so much was left out. Following each actor's part on the personal level gave more to the movie. Making it more human with their personal lifes. By shortening the film it just took something away. May 11, 2008
