July 14, 2008Ghost (Special Collector's Edition)This movie has been a favorite for sometime. The special effects are very good. The supporting roles by Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore outstanding. It goes without saying that I think this was Patrick Swayze much more mature acting than Dirty Dancing.
July 12, 2008 | | The best ghost story Hollyweird has come up with. | |
A brilliant story, superbly acted, Ghost will tug at the old heart strings.
I'm not going to go into plot details here.
The movie has a lot of funny moments with Whoopie Goldberg.
Emotional moments with Demi and some funny and emotional moments with Patrick.
It may be a little to intense for very small children.
But for adults, this is one of my favorite Hollyweird ghost stories.
Recommended.
June 23, 2008I love this movie!! Every time I watch it, I get chills and I cry! What a tender love story! Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopie Goldberg are excellent and I'd like to believe that those we love are still very near to us always.

Generally speaking, I have enjoyed most of Patrick Swayze's movies including "Dirty Dancing," "Road House," "Black Dog," and the really underrated "Along For the Ride." I consider Patrick Swayze to be one of the most underrated actors. While he often plays a normal person, he adapts his normal character to different situations quite well. (The corruption in "Road House," the dangers in "Black Dog," and especially his situation in this one. Being dead!) The movie starts peaceful and normal with Swayze, Moore, cleaning their new apartment with their friend Goldwyn. (Though through the good directing, there is a foreshadowing of the tragic events of the story.) Moore and Swayze are lovers, but Moore hasn't been able to convince Swayze to marry her. (This movie underlines the fact that just because you say you love someone and share intimacy with them, that doesn't mean you're ready to make a complete gift of yourself to them, which means the love is incomplete.) Early on, Swayze is murdered, and it APPEARS to be a typical robbery. the scene where Swayze realizes he is dead is a scene of deep sadness, but still artistic beauty. One thing that makes Patrick Swayze such a WONDERFUL actor, is that he can be strong and tough, but still vulnerable. Moving on, Swayze goes through the deep sadness of being able to be with Moore (in a way), but powerless to comfort her in her sadness. (Talk about poignant!) Without going into too many details, Swayze discovers his murder was just part of an elaborate crime, and that Moore is in danger. Desperately, he finds help from Goldberg. (A psychic medium who cheats her customers, and is FRIGHTENED when she realizes she can hear the dead speak. Or at least this one ghost.) Goldberg provides some hilarious and BADLY NEEDED comic relief now. Before I go on, without Goldberg, this movie would have been JUST TOO MOROSE, and her great comedy makes this movie. She reluctantly helps Swayze. (At first to get him to leave her alone...Later because she realizes that she herself is in danger...And finally because she grows to care about Swayze and Moore.) What a fantastic formula for this conwoman! If I say much more, I will probably ruin the movie for those of you who have not seen it. But I can say that there is just the right touch of the Scooby Doo formula. (Linking ghosts to some real human criminal activity. Except of course, the ghost here is the good guy.) It is interesting that when for obvious reasons, Swayze and Moore can no longer be intimate, they truly discover the full depth of their love. And if we wish to take this a step further, Patrick Swayze did lay down his life for Moore. One is at least entitled to wonder if the writer had the Gospel According to John in mind: "Greater love hath no man than this. That a man may lay down his life for his friends" ("John" 15:13). While Patrick Swayze has made many great movies, this is arguably his best. It is the perfect combination of love, sadness, suspense, and comic relief. Also, in the event you don't know this, Patrick Swayze has cancer. Please keep him in your prayers.
