Northwest Passage

After being expelled from Harvard for criticising the food there, being jilted by his sweetheart's family, Langdon Towne gets drunk at the tavern with his old Friend Hunk and says some disrespectful things about the English governor in his old colonial hometown in New England, which is overheard and almost puts him in jail. So they decide to leave for the west. When they meet Ranger Major Rogers, he offers them a trip west with his Rangers where Langdon has the chance to paint Indians. But the military expedition against French allied Indians becomes a disaster. They're cut of from supplies, followed by French soldiers and hundreds of miles away from their own lines. An attack on the French Fort St. Francis is unsuccessful, although they achieve their military aim, they don't find food and Langdon is wounded. Almost starved, about 50 survivors of various further fights including Rogers, Langdon and Hunk come to their meeting point with the English troops for resupplying. But there's no sign of the English. Product Description

Like the others I have this movie on VHS tape and have been waiting for it to come out on DVD formate. This movie is one that I always choose when I have had a hard and busy day, it helps me to relax and to remind me what kind of men help in making this country what it use to be, before political correctness. And it also reminds me that others have had it alot harder than I have. What a great Movie! July 31, 2008

A Spencer Tracy Classic

Since the first time I saw this movie it became one of my top ten favorites. I bought this on EBAY and paid almost 30 dollars for it on VHS format because for some reason it's not available on DVD. WHY? VHS is, I guess better than nothing. This is one of Spencer Tracys' best movies in my opinion. It also has a great supporting cast which includes Robert Young and Walter Brennen. July 24, 2008

Inspiring Movie

I agree with one of the other reviewers that it would be wonderful to see this issued in DVD format for th US. I have it on VHS and know that it will deteriorate as time passes, and don't want to lose this great movie. This is an excellent story that is very well-acted and features great scenery. An excellent character study of how Spencer Tracy's charges behave when faced with adversity as well as how Tracy must work to keep them focused and hopefull.

I'd highly recommend you see this if you are in the mood for a movie from a historical context or for an action-drama flick. May 25, 2008

Great Classic

This is one of the most memorable movies of my youth... action adventure, it has it all.... I have been waiting for it to be available for my collection December 13, 2007

Please re-issue on DVD

I wish they would re-issue this on DVD. One of my favorites. Only have it on tape. November 10, 2007
