rating: 4 QuoteTouching Movie with a Twist?Quote
I didn't know what to expect when I watched this movie with all the jumping around in time. It did draw me into the hope of a love story.

Sandra Bullock shines once again in this movie with her co star. A great love story!

rating: 3 QuoteShould Have Let Rod Serling Handle the Time TravelQuote
Too bad Rod Serling is dead because I think he would have made more sense of the time travel stuff in this movie. Or even the Back to the Future writers. Lake House had too many loose ends and made very little sense in the end. Actually it is a bit confusing to classify this as a time travel movie because it appears that only a dog and some letters in a mailbox travel through time. The mailbox is a portal to the past, but the person being communicated with in the past lives in the present as well, but is getting communications two years before the present time. Confused? I was too. As for the other elements of the movie, I thought it was a nice romance and Sandra Bullock is charming as always. This could have been a really great movie with just a little more thought as to how to make some sense on the time differences. The guy who is an architect and getting communications in the past from the girl who lives in the present ends up dead according to his brother, but then he doesn't get killed after all because he gets warned in the past before the event by the girl, so he avoids the danger. The problem is the brother has just said he died, so which is it? There is never a satisfactory explanation as to how he could have died, but then been warned so he didn't die. Nonsensical. Does this suddenly change the memory of the brother? It is never explained or explored. Did they really think we would buy this? Only the actors saved this from being a complete disaster. It's not a bad movie; just nothing special. June 10, 2008

story that lures you on a journey about the transcendency of love. It is a simple story yet it holds some level of intricacy which arouses the interest of the viewer. June 3, 2008

rating: 2 QuoteDeserves neither 5 stars nor 1 starQuote
OK, you may or may not like this film. You might be one of the ones who fell in love with this movie.

But does it worth 5 stars??? How come, as of May 26, 2008, 158 people out of 289 rated this movie 5 stars? This makes me ask 2 questions: 1) Seriously, if you think this movie is a 5 star film, then how many stars would you give to the classics?? 1000 stars?? 2) Is not there any single thing to criticize in this film? Is it that impeccable? If so, then how come this film was not nominated for the Oscars? I am not fond of Oscars, but anyway, the 158 people out of 289 out there, your perspective is surely disparate than the Academy.

As to my perspective, IMHO, this was a typical Hollywood movie that was produced, what I call, "just to be produced", no more than that. The main aim of these type of films is to help you spend a pleasant time. In that respect this film is similar to a previous film called "Serendipity", for instance. But unlike that movie, it has some metaphysical stuff in it, which did not make any sense. Plus it was extremely boring and unnecessarily long.

Nonetheless I gave 2 stars because it was exciting in the beginning, made me curious about what will happen next. And it was not amongst the movies I watched that deserve 1 star.

The very reason I wrote this review was to stress the unnecessary ratings/stars given to the movies. This movie deserves neither 5 stars nor 1 star. This is a type of movie that needs to be rated between 2-4 stars, and my rating goes to 2 stars and I would not recommend anyone.
