About Pet Sematary
Dr. Louis Creed having just moved to Maine with his wife and two children is heartbroken when he finds that his daughter's beloved cat has been hit by a truck and killed. Thankfully a strange elderly neighbor called Jud knows a secret that may spare the young girl's tears. He takes the dead cat to an ancient Indian burial ground that lies hidden in the surrounding hilltops; and when he buries the feline there it comes back to life a few days later. But Louis can't be trusted with the secret and despite strong warnings that something horrible will happen he uses the power of the burial ground to bring his son back from the dead -- after the child is killed the same way the family cat was.System Requirements:Running Time: 102 MinutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: HORROR Rating: R UPC: 097361183640 Manufacturer No: 118364 Product Description

Average user review:| Another King book, utterly destroyed by Hollyweird |
What a pity, I think Salem's Lot has been remade at least three times and they STILL can't get it right.
Pet Sematary is yet another masterful book that Hollywood butchered.
Simply horrendous direction.
Laughable acting.
FX that stink.
A very non scary, scary movie.
I can't recommend this except for die hard fans of the book who have probably already seen this monstrosity.
AVOID!!!

| Review from memory |
It's difficult to film this, but the scariest part of the book was the possibility of the Wendigo in the woods. That was almost completely dropped from the movie and too many "shock" shots were inserted (such as the "run toward the camera" shot of Zelda) plus a stereotypical slasher ending. The story of PET SEMATARY is like a cold mist that chills your skin and keeps you on edge... the film version took the basic story elements and shoved them into a pre-packaged "slasher" script.
I'd love to see somebody take another stab at this. As I said, I'll review it again this evening and possibly change my mind. For now, I leave it at three stars for just getting it to the screen and for Fred Gwynne....
...right. upon watching it again, only a few things have changed in the above review - Fred Gwynnne is still the bst thing in the movie, with the guy who plays Victor Pascow as a close second, Dale Midkiff was actually better than I remember, but the girl who played Ellie was so annoyingly bad I wanted to throw her through a plate-glass window. The Wendigo part was still something that should have been looked at, primarily because the idea that cheating death has it's consequences was not established firmly enough. Better than I remember, but still lacking. No change in star rating. January 30, 2008
| One of the most underrated horror movies of all time! |
Pet Sematary is a movie which presents a plot that is easily appealing to the average movie watcher. A young doctor decides to move his budding family into a house located in the rural countryside. They explore the property, and meet the neighbor. It is within the first 30 mins. of the movie that it begins to intrigue you. Once you hear Judd the neighbor explain the significance of the shaded path beside their house you want to know more about it. From that moment on you're hopelessly hooked. Then it isn't too long until you're introduced to the movies darker side, which of course is the reason you'll be wanting this movie anyway.
The movie itself is the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. To this day I have watched it well over 50 times and some of the scenes still scare me to this day! It is a classic vintage of Stephen King's very best brew. I highly recommend this movie for anyone interested in the horror genre. Watch it only if you dare... December 28, 2007
