rating: 4 QuoteNice Collection, but enjoy other Ustinov Poirot films betterQuote
I haven't watched Murder in Three Acts yet but as far as Dead Man's folly:
This was not quite as good as some other Peter Ustinov Poirot movies, specifically Evil Under the Sun and Death on the Nile. Seems like they tried to make some of these using the wrong era and messed them up. I know Agatha Christie wrote for many decades and that Hercule Poirot's career also spanned decades. But they just didn't get some of these right when they converted them to screenplays and set them in the seventies. Having read a lot of the Hercule Poirot books, I think the latest they should have set any of the films was the late fifties. The clues and characters just don't work as well updated.

As far as Thirteen at Dinner:
This too was not as good as other Peter Ustinov Poirots such as Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun. The version with David Suchet (Lord Edgeware Dies) is a better version. However, this is collectible, like trivia, because David Suchet plays Japp in this movie. I think they made the mistake of trying to update this to a later time period and it just doesn't have the flavor and charm of the written work.

Thoroughly enjoyed the product. Peter Ustinov is the only Hercule in my opinion. Did not realize that these DVD's were from the television series. July 18, 2008

Peter Ustinov is wonderful as Hercule Poirot. I have all the Hercule Poirot movies that he made and love each one. If you are a Peter Ustinov and Hercule Poirot fan you will love these also. Agatha Christie would be proud to see Peter Ustinov portray Hercule Poirot. June 18, 2008

rating: 3 QuoteSecond-rate Poirot films, but still enjoyableQuote
As other reviewers have said, these made-for-TV adaptations of Agatha Christie's books cannot measure up to such theatrically released films as Death on the Nile, Murder on the Orient Express or Evil Under the Sun: the production values are lower, the dialogues are not as witty and the casts are not as strong. But taken on their own, they're still quite enjoyable. Ustinov may not be as accurate a Poirot as David Suchet, but he is always very entertaining to watch. Agatha Christie completists need to have this set, but for casual viewers it is not essential. May 4, 2008
