I was disappointed with this version of Frenchman's Creek. The heroine's acting abilities were fine but the hero's ability is something to be desired. Definitely a B film, not impressed at all. I actually stopped watching it half way through.
July 1, 2008It's almost always said the book is better than the movie, but until Daphne Du Maurier's book, Frenchman's Creek, is rereleased, Du Maurier fans will have to settle for the movie version. This is a remake of an earlier movie and although there are no major stars featured in this movie, it was far better than expected and well worth watching. The main characters are well-rounded and even subtle subplots are woven into the main plot almost effortlessly. There is a twist at the end that was unexpected, which made the experience even richer.

I have seen several Masterpiece Theatre movies on television and never had a problem with content. So I was shocked to find nudity in this film. I thought that the storyline and the characters were all good but as far as some of the scenes go I was disappointed.
May 5, 2007I found this to be a superb production of the romance classic. Rich settings and an excellent cast brought the story and characters to colorful life. My one regret is that it wasn't longer. My second regret is that I don't have hair like the heroine. My third...that I can't sail happily away with the handsome hero. Beyond that, though, I certainly have no regrets about purchasing this film, a treasure chest of visual treats.
February 19, 2007This was one of my favorite books when I was younger and this adaptation was just lovely. I was so thrilled to finally have the opportunity to replace my VHS tape with the DVD. This paired with a copy of the book would make a wonderful gift for any lady who appreciates a fantastic, romantic period piece. Don't miss out on this version especially if you enjoyed the original book.
