July 7, 2008The 4th season is when "Roseanne" really showed how good it could be. All the actors had developed their characters and were ready to show how funny they could be. Also the writing became much stronger compared to the 1st and 2nd seasons. I think Roseanne the actress had alot to do with keeping the show on a certain level of reality, since she says much of what happens in the show she pulls from her own life. I particularly liked the episode "Darlene Fades to Black" and how it shows what it's really like to be a parent. I'd say seasons 4,5 and 6 are the best. The rest have ups and downs but are still very good. Laurie Metcalf and Roseanne Barr are so talented. Laurie knows exactly how to deliver on comedic timing and use her face, tone and body all together. Roseanne has an amazing ability to be real, funny and original without ever looking like she is trying to act, it almost comes naturally. John Goodman is very talented, but I do think he tended to get overshadowed by the actresses sometimes. Finally, it's nice to see the young actors who play the Connor kids actually be talented, funny and original too. Kids on most sitcoms tend to just say the line with a "look at me and laugh because I'm cute" tone. Roseanne is by far one of the best shows ever made. Definently worth buying.
June 27, 2008 | | Fantastic Show, great season | |
Roseanne is a fantastic show. If you haven't seen the show because you don't like Roseanne, you are really missing out. It revolves around a fantastic cast about a family that you feel you could know or have known in another form. They struggle to pay the bills, they argue at times, the house gets dirty (they have 3 kids), they make huge mistakes, they all have their own disfunctional ways of dealing with hardships just like normal people. It is the only sitcom of its kind and its special. The first four seasons are an absolute must on on DVD. It's also funny as hell! You can't go wrong!
June 22, 2008As good as television sitcoms can get. The high point for this iconic series. Every episode in this season is well-written, expertly directed, and beautifully acted. With a strong story arc and Roseanne's confident vision, this season feels like one long movie. Each episode paints a picture of a loving, modern-day family trying to survive in a difficult and challenging world. As a whole, it is a masterpiece of storytelling.
June 17, 2008Yet another great season of Roseanne-I just love this show and when the series took a turn and the family won the lottery, it all went downhill from there. So I will be stopping my collection at that point. However, this is a great season.
