Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce THE BEST!!!!

All 14 movies which are in black and white. Are the best in being remastered didn't have a problem watching all the movies. Also Rathbone and Bruce are the best actors to portray Holmes and Watson. Its like the actors are friends in real life. I really really enjoyed watching all the dvd's and also how they explain how they fix orignal recordings of the movies so that we can watch it today. :-) July 27, 2008

"THE BEST OF THE BEST"

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as portrayed by Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce respectively, are the best of many attempts at bringing those characters to life. Yes, Jeremy Brett did an excellent job on television. But, to the world the former were not simply acting, they 'were' the most famous detective and his sidekick. MPI and UCLA Theater did what I consider the very best job of remastering ever done of a movie anywhere, anytime, by anyone! I have owned the set since it was first released. Of course, "Hound Of The Baskervilles" is the epitome of a good detective film. Enjoy all of them. It is a good investment. Papa Larry H May 27, 2008

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THESE GREAT MOVIES FOR MANY YEARS NOW BUT MY COPYS WERE ON VHS AND THE QUALITY WAS IN SOME CASES POOR TO GOOD.
AFTER PURCHASING THE COMPLEAT SET I FEEL AS IF I AM SEEING THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE DVD'S ARE PRISTEEN AND HAVE COMONTARYS AND SUBTITLES IF YOU WISH. IF YOU LOVE THESE GREAT MYSTERYS DON'T WAIT ANY LONGER. YOU WONT REGRET IT. ITS ELIMENTARY BUY IT! April 5, 2008

Definately collection to get, rather than the cheap versions at your local retailer

Over the years, I have purchased the cheap knockoffs of these movies in the bargain bins at my local retailer and have been at least happy to watch these old films. They take me back to a time of watching PBS (1 of only 5 tv stations we could get at the time) at my grandmother's house on a lazy Sunday afternoon. When I had read that the UCLA Film and Television Archive had remastered these, I knew these would be on my wish list.

I finally received them and was totally blown away. The depth of the picture and sound exceeds anything I had seen previously. Also, the bonus of all of the films in one package made this a no-brainer.

I have included a couple of screen caps in the customer images to give you an idea of the difference of quality. If you are unsure whether this is as good or better than the $5 per movie sets at your local retailer, take a look and see which you prefer.

I do agree with other people that the packaging could have been a lot better but I am more interested in the films themselves. February 29, 2008
