All I can say is that they don't make movies like that, it was wonderful and the digital remastering of the dvd was impressive.. July 14, 2008

3.5 stars. I'm a big Bette Davis fan, but the script left me wanting. The whole time I was watching this, I kept making comparisons to Gone with the Wind- just a old campier version. I'm not crazy about films that lay the troubles of the world at the feet of women-especially when the biggest crime she committed was to wear a red dress to a ball-which in a B&W film the whole red dress thing loses it's impact. Just when the film was getting real interesting, the credits roll and I'm looking around to see whether there was a second disc missing. That's it? You're kidding me. Again, I LOOOOVE Bette Davis and this was a decent performance by both her a Henry Fonda (the Ashley character) but I just didn't care for this script like I'd hoped I would.

This movie was one of Bette Davis' best. Thoroughly well performed by the entire cast, Ms. Davis, nevertheless, stood out like the star that she was.
