Girls + Guns = Fun

First off, a little disclaimer on this DVD: this is not one full-length film, but rather a series of shorts.

But oh, what shorts! This takes a group of porn stars and erotic models, gives them skimpy outfits and big guns, and turns them loose. Most of the shorts are little more than video shoots of the girls taking off what little they have, posing sexily and ocassionally shooting the gun they have. But it's still well worth the money. Not quite what I was expecting

This is an obvious first effort by Scotty JX, shot over several years with varying types of equipment (part of the movie was shot in High-Def giving it a "filmed" look, and part of it just looks like standard video, for example). But what came as an annoyance to me was that there is nothing anywhere close to a plot. Had this been marketed as a disjointed series of vignettes of naked women, more like his "Water and Fitness," I'd have had no issues with it. But it was presented as a movie, even with a crawl that provides backstory at the opening.

Make no mistake about it, this is not a movie. I had expected the complete lack of dialogue. But I thought that I was going to see ridiculously-gorgeous naked women in ridiculous situations, fighting and warring and kicking butt--sort of like an Andy Sidaris movie on steroids. Instead it's more like an Andy Sidaris movie on pot. There are ridiculously-gorgeous naked women (the obvious redeeming quality about the show) and they're in ridiculous situations (stopping in the middle of a gun battle to strip naked entirely). But there really isn't any fighting or warring or kicking butt, aside from the last 15 minutes or so when Sylvia Saint gets into a shootout with several assailants. Before that it's just naked women shooting guns. We don't know what theyr'e shooting guns at or why. It makes me think that Scott JX has as much of a thing for assault rifles as he does for hooters.

And if you do, too, you'll totally dig this DVD. However, I don't, so I didn't.

By looking at the trailers the director's later efforts have more true action sequences, where the characters actually are fighting each other and not just walking around shooting guns for no discernible reason. It also appears that they show more flesh, which is something else that bugged me a little about this offering. Other than one scene with some really tall leggy brunette, there arent' any beaver shots as I had been expecting. Putting it into other terms, this is closer to being a Playboy release than a Penthouse release, even though Penthouse really has championed Actiongirls.

To summarize, this is worth a look because there are a lot of hot chicks in it, but if you've only got $20 to spend on a DVD of this genre I'd suggest going with something that presents itself more honestly (such as one of the CandyGirl Videos or select titles from Peach or Penthouse).
