I learned about Marvin when I was a little girl and my Mother would have me keep starting the record over LOL so baby when I tell you I was hooked on Marvin from childhood I aint lying and as I grew Marvin became my 'man in my head' cause he was cool as ice and sexy as hell even though he did not dance LOL.I enjoy going back if only in my mind to the good old days when black people did not act like crabs in a barrel but reached out to help neighbors in the 'village'

Don't get me wrong! Great DVD! Just took forever to get it. Compared to another DVD I got right away. Other than the time it took to get it, very happy with it.
June 26, 2008I am a die hard Marvin Gaye fan and this dvd is awesome. It shows clips of performances that I did not know existed. I have told so many of my friends and family about it that they are considering purchasing a copy for themselves. If you love Marvin, this is a must buy for you. Thanks.

I am so glad I purchased this DVD--Real Thing: In Performance 1964-1981. It is vintage Marvin Gaye. The sound quality is very good considering that the tracks were originally made 25 to over 40 years ago. I believe that Marvin was truly a genius and that his gifts of music, writing, and poetry are easily seen in these early performances. We miss his brillance even today. "What's Going On" is critically appropriate for America in 2007.That is some legacy. I particularly like the fact that the DVD consists more of performances rather than interviews. Some DVDs have too much footage of the interviewers and not performances by the artist. If we want a review of the Artist we will buy a book. We want the music.
November 10, 2007Oh, my gosh! Marvin's voice is outstanding. There are a couple of cuts with him singing a cappella - one with Tammi Terrell. I absolutely LOVE to hear him sing. In between songs, there are interviews of Marvin on various shows like American Bandstand, Merv Griffin (or Mike Douglas) and for a Belgium TV show. Highly recommended.
