I must admit that I did not notice the soundtrack changes seasons 1-3. And okay, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they could not cost-effectively include all of the original songs. But did they have to do such an incredibly poor job of replacing them in season 4? Other songs could have been inserted that actually went with the scenes. With the choices they made for the DVD, there were times that the music was so jarring that it completely overrode the emotional impact of the scene, and just...did not fit at all. The episode endings are important, and when you're sitting there hearing terrible, crappy lyrics that make no sense with what just happened...it saps the enjoyment out of the show. Even a show as great as this.
I liked what a previous reviewer wrote: "Instead of the very original and eclectic music offered in the original...most of it has been replaced by this hellacious twangy, depressing country music that makes the show painful instead of enjoyable to watch." EXACTLY.
The other issue was with the special features, or lackthereof for discs 2 and 3. Instead of the promised "deleted scenes" that are printed on the cases for discs 2 and 3 (and were present for every other disc in the series), there's just the "Disc One Side B" placeholder, showing the deleted scenes and gag reels available on that disc. And sure, the gag reels covered the entire season, but the deleted scenes were just for disc 1, which means that 2/3 of the season is missing. I bought this for the show, but the extras are part of the package and this is a huge oversight. There's just no excuse for poor production values like this. January 20, 2008
| ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK MISSING!!!! |
THEY HAVE ELECTED TO REMOVE MANY OF THE SONGS FEATURED IN THE ORIGINAL SHOW AND REPLACE THEM WITH CRAPPY SONGS BY NO NAME ACTS. I SUSPECT THAT THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WANTED TO SAVE A BUCK IN PUBLISHING/ LICENSE FEES! IN DOING SO, THEY HAVE TAKEN A HUGE CHUNK OF THE ORIGINAL SHOW'S ALLURE AND FLUSHED IT DOWN THE TOILET! I PURCHASED ALL THE DVDS AND I AM VERY UPSET. SONGS LIKE "WHITER SHADE OF PALE" AND "BLITZKRIEG BOP" ARE NOW ABSENT. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! December 29, 2007
