About Bringing Rain
Adrian Grenier (star of HBO's hit series Entourage) and Paz de la Huerta (Cider House Rules) lead an ensemble cast of talented young actors in Noah Buschel's BRINGING RAIN, a story of boarding school students coming to terms with a scarring accident. Stuck together for the last month of school, classmates are faced with either dealing with the reality of the damage done or drifting off into isolated fantasies and denials. BRINGING RAIN is a thoughtful and disarming look at teenage life.

A lot of the times when I get dvds off of Netflix, I am just amazed at how little risks are being taken in independent cinema these days. Bringing Rain is at least one movie I have seen in last few years that is it's own beast. The acting, directing, and writing is all raw-- but the talent is there in spades all around. Yes, it is very low budget, but if you go into this movie with an open mind, it is extremely rewarding. Adrian Grenier is almost unrecognizably great in this movie. Paz de la Huerta, as a coked out delusional movie star lover, is captivating. The supporting players-- Ryan Donowho, Alexis Dziena, Merritt Wever-- have all shown in both this movie, and their projects after, that they are some of the most talented young actors around. In twenty years I think people will look at this movie the same way people do now at movies like "The Outsiders" in terms of just the sheer amount of young talent on the screen. Noah Buschel, the director and writer, from what I understand was all of 23 when he directed this and I look forward to seeing what he does next. Belladonna Productions did L.I.E. They are kind of a throwback indie production company, keeping it somewhat real in the day and age of Little Miss Sunshine. Although they did do Transamerica after Bringing Rain. At any rate, if you love indies that really are indies-- check out Bringing Rain. It's great. June 7, 2007
