I would like to thank all the reviewers here who have informed me that this set is censored and altered in an unforgiveable fashion. Mike Judge and MTV should be ashamed of themselves. Who do they think they're protecting? They should show courage and release them uncut.

This series was hilarious when it came out, and surprisingly, it hasn't dated at all. Usually stuff in the 1990's is littered with pop culture references that are completely lost in later decades (The Ben Stiller Show, The Critic, even The Simpsons), and it diminishes the impact of the show. This stuff still makes me laugh. As for Judge and MTV refusing (or concealing) the original episodes, they're stupider than Beavis and Butthead for doing that. Get your head out of your hole MTV/Judge and act like adults.... March 30, 2008

Having purchased and watched all of the discs in all three volumes I can safely say these low ratings are a result of the misconception that massive editing occurred. Minor editing took place on a few episodes, but throughout the three collections over 90% of the animation was released. Mike Judge left out certain episodes because they were uncut or substandard. He didn't want the poorest of footage to detract from the overall quality of the video. I'm aggravated how many people first state their love and admiration for (Mike Judge's) Beavis and Butthead, and follow it by criticizing his editing skills. I trust his judgment, if he wanted to leave something out, who am I to tell him different. If the seasons were released one at a time, like every other show, you would never acquire 90% of the material for the price of three box sets. Judge did a favor, now give this show some credit. A true classic.

I always liked Beavis and Butthead when their program was on MTV. I guess a lot of people did. I understand the ratings would triple when that particular program was showing. Well, it was unique, irreverent, quite different and could be very funny it times. The B & B humor always tended to be gender specific. If a mixed group watched, the men would mostly be chuckling with the women mostly thinking it was really stupid. Well, it was really stupid, and it was also very funny. It gets a lot of the same reaction as a mixed group watching "The Three Stooges." Here again, the guys tend to be chuckling with the women wondering who would ever watch this junk. I guess you just have to "get it" in order to appreciate the humor, and all of the males either are or have been teen-age boys. Mike Judge is a genius at understanding and depicting this exceedingly difficult stage in life. He also has a wry and juvenile sense of humor.

Thus it was as I was strolling through my local warehouse club and noticed "Beavis and Butthead: The Mike Judge Collection, Volume 1" in the DVD section. I thought about it for a while and bought. It was a worthwhile collection to view and brought back a lot of forgotten chuckles. Those guys are really stupid, without question, but I can look back on my own misspent youth and see many of the same numbskull characteristics. It's funny, but maybe a little painful at the same time. Maybe that's why it gets such wide viewing. It's somewhat bittersweet. I notice that the user reviews express widely mixed reactions and I suspect a lot of the gender-specific humor may come into play here. People, in general, either seem to love B & B videos or hate them.

I'm not fully satisfied with this particular DVD collection. The B & B music/video reviews were always a favorite part of the program and they're mostly missing here. Not all of my favorite episodes are included and some of the episodes which are included are not particularly good. Oh well, there's always Volumes 2 and 3 to satisfy those who have to have everything. Would I purchase these other volumes? Well, I enjoyed the first but buying the second or third is not too likely.

I have been waiting for my son to be old enough to "get" B&B. Now that he is we (luckly) rented so far the first 2 discs. I don't usually watch cartoons, BUT Beavis & Butthead have been my favs since day one. That said, I was SO disappointed in these discs. I for one feel cheated, I was looking foward to the B&B I knew... bad videos & all. OK I know getting the rights to some of the videos would've been a hassle, but at the very least give us the UNCUT eps. ALL the EPS!!!
I'm not saying these cd's are a total wash.... NO ..They are funny as all... I laughed so hard I cried with "The Great Cornholio" ...now my son understands my need for TP for the...
I'll BUY a box set when they come out with an uncut version, let me decide what MY kid watches.
I'll just step off my soapbox now...Thank you ;-) November 8, 2007
