Great story with a twist. Nicely done for a low budget movie. Lots of twists near the end of the movie...I really enjoyed this one.
June 29, 2008Excelente película. Los tres actores presentan una buena caracterización de sus personajes. Es brillante, inesperada y conflictiva. El personaje de Gael García es super. Me gusto mucho la película, la recomiendo 100%.
June 12, 2008 | | Great Indie-Well Paced-Cleverly Put Together-Highly Recommended
This movie surprised me the first time around & yet it's even better with a second watch. The pieces all fit together nicely. To me it was a great twist on "Reality TV", which I find a sad statement on our society. Why would someone act the way the usually do knowing they are being filmed? Why do I want to look into the lives of rich, arrogant, over paid, talentless people (Ex. Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton, etc.) All three leads are great. We see better chemistry between Gael Garcia Bernal & Natalia Verbeke, but that is exactly what makes it interesting. James D'Arcy is the stand out as he slips in and out during his breakdown scenes. All in all, most credit goes to Matthew Parkhill, who wrote & directed this gem. I don't want to say too much more, just give it a view & I think you'll enjoy! I look forward to more work from Matthew. Hopefully there's more innovation in his agenda.
April 25, 2008 | | trimming could have saved it
Clearly the writer/director of this movie needed the discipline of a Hal Wallis-style producer. The "love triangle" surface story should have been trimmed so that the plot got to the twists quicker. The cast is also too youthful: more sophisticated and mature characters could have helped lend credibility and weight to the triangle without such "frollicking otter" time wasters as the stolen room service meal (some date!). The surface story's romance was so tepid and dull that I watched most of the film with the commentary, from which I glean that Parkhill was too much in love with his own script and directing duties to turn a nice concept into a tight thriller. I guess that's why they call such fans of their own perceived genius "amateurs."
March 7, 2008Complicated and surprising trip with lots of twists and turns performed by characters you'll really like. You will be surprised who turns out to be the twisted one.
This is the movie you will watch a second time, if not more. As it ends, you'll be setting there saying "what?, what just happened", then you'll need to take a few days off and rewatch it. The second viewing will feel like an enlightenment.
I really loved it.
