I watched this when it first aired and thought it was pretty good. I ordered it and watched it again. I still like it. Not the best miniseries I have ever watched but I enjoyed it. many other reviewers think it is sanitized and poorly edited. It may be. All I can tell you is that I still enjoyed it. August 11, 2008

I have been waiting to buy this dvd set but will not until they release the full version and not the ''classroom'' edited version.

does anyone know if they have? or will? what a waste if not.

This movie was so intersting that I watched the whole (3 dics) without stopping. It was entertaining, informative, and enjoyable. Great plot with bits of real history. Real attempt to provide an accurate role of American Indian Nations during the "take over" of the western lands. As an American Indian I did not find it offensive but it could have been improved by telling more of the story from the American Indian perspective. Overall it is really good and I have added it to my relevant American Indian Movie Collection. July 20, 2008

I'm really disappointed. For years I've wanted this mini-series because when it first aired I missed a couple of episodes. I do remember that the character, Abe Wheeler, worked on the railroad and became friends with a Chinaman. In this 4 disk set, a lot is missing. It never showed Tom Berenger at all. Even the girl on the cover i don't remember seeing. As badly as I have wanted this, It is a gyp. Is this something Mr. Spielberg wanted to do? What a gyp. I've even gone directly to TNT where it aired to see if I could get my hands on the full length edition, but it booted me right back to Amazon. As badly as I want this, I cannot just settle. This chopped up version just does not set well with me. I've just returned the set that I ordered. July 13, 2008

the language could have been better. It is sad that foul language has to be used when it is entirely not needed. It is sad to see a potentially good family film ruined by terrible language.
This is a tremendous series about the thirty or so year span that has been named the wild west. I think this series covers the prejudice against the Lakota people in a good way. It also captures the beauty of a people. I recently spent a week on the Rosebud Reservation in SD. The Lakota people are honestly poetic. June 20, 2008
