Average user review:Classic, creepy-cheesy Sci-Fi that still has appeal for those who like quirky movies! LOL :D You gotta love those "ominous" green ships and heat rays! // Go for the DVD version though! May 9, 2008
Movie Classics
This is a real sci-fi classic. There is no comparison to the new movies, so don't even try. This was state-of-the-art filmaking in the days of black and white moving pictures. April 11, 2008
War of the Worlds, 1950's version
I rented this version and the Tom Cruise version at the same time, and I gotta say that this version, as far as acting goes, is still better than how Tom Cruise plays a part. Anyway, I just like this version better, sometimes its not all about the latest, greatest CG effects... March 29, 2008
The Grandfather of all Science Fiction Movies in the USA
The War Of The Worlds DVD
The War Of The Worlds is based on the story by that name by the , Father of Science Fiction, H.G. Wells, at least in the english language. It's about an invasion of Earth by what is thought to be Martians with superhuman talents and weapons. This story was made famous by Orson Wells on his Halloween special on October 30, 1938 when he reenacted it on a CBS radio show as if it were true, using actual street names and place names to make it more realistic. People panicked grabbed their guns and hid their children. Gene Barry plays the protagonist in the movie with Ann Robinson as his "love interest" (got to have a pretty girl).
Highly recommended for fans of science Fiction, both books and movies, to see the roots of what is coming out even today See A Hymn Before Battle (Posleen War Series #1)John Ring's Posleen War series beginninig with

Surprisingly surprised!
I am a sci-fi, horror and western movie collector. This is one movie I never got to see, so I thought I'd give it a run through. It is well produced and directed. I liked it because it has an imminent Martian victory maintained tightly through out the movie until the very surprising end. Good acting and very good special effects for 1953. I would rate it a must have for the serious collector or just to have for a very good movie to kick back and enjoy. February 8, 2008
