Miss Congeniality 2 - Armed and Fabulous (2005)

F.B.I. operative Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) famously went undercover in a beauty pageant a while back, and now she's supposedly so recognizable that her only use to the agency is as a pretty public representative. Dumped by her boyfriend (whom Benjamin Bratt wisely decided not to portray this time around), a gloomy Gracie goes along with the promo biz until her friend, Miss United States (Heather Burns), is kidnapped along with pageant official Stan Fields (William Shatner) in Las Vegas. Bullock still has perk to please her fans, but neither she nor her awkward alter-ego has any purpose in a sequel to a movie released five years prior. The result is a desperately unfunny, feature-length commercial for Las Vegas tourism, with outdated homosexual stereotypes (Diedrich Bader, as Gracie's stylist) and the usually terrific Regina King (of Ray and Jerry Maguire fame) stuck in a glum role as Bullock's butch bodyguard. Worth the watch

I bought both movies and watched them when they arrived. This is a good continuation of the first movie. The story doesn't have to be especially believable, but the laughs are the main issue here. Sandra Bullock is a "stitch", so pretty and believable as her character. March 20, 2008

No, it's not original; yes, it is funny...

I've been thinking about writing this review for some time now and I just now got to doing it. There have been a lot of negative things said about this film but I want you to forget all of those for a minute. There are times in life when we just need a laugh, no matter how corny or ridiculous a laugh it really is. `Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous' gives us just that, laugh after laugh after corny laugh. Sandra Bullock, aided by the hilarious Regina King, delivers line after line and truly brings on the funny. I was pleasantly surprised with just how funny this movie really was. Sure, plot wise it's a bit lame and feels just shy of `been there done that', and I was bummed to see the absence of Michael Caine, but it makes up for all of that with some hysterical performances.

In the years that followed the events of the first `Miss Congeniality' film Gracie Hart has become a bit of a celebrity and because of her new status she no longer can work undercover due to her recognizable face. Instead she becomes the face of the department, going on talkshows and the like to bring good press. She needs some protection though and that's where Sam Fuller comes in, a hot shot hot headed officer who doesn't like the idea of `protecting' the likes of Gracie Hart. Yes, Hart has become a bit of a diva (Bullock is just hilarious here, I mean truly hilarious). Hart changes though when the unthinkable happens. Her dearest friend and winner of the pageant in the previous film, Cheryl (Miss Rhode Island), and Stan Fields are kidnapped and held for ransom. She must now try her hardest to rescue them before it is too late.

Sandra Bullock and Regina King play off one another beautifully here creating a fun and funny atmosphere that draws the audience in. Is this film perfect? No, of course not, but it is a great slice of comedic entertainment. Sandra Bullock has proven to be the queen of comedy, at least in my book, and this is no exception. She has a great understanding of what is funny and how to deliver it authentically, never coming across as if she were `acting'. She's a personable actress who just gets better with each passing film. Watching her sink into this role is great and I just can't say enough good things about her. Regina King is another great actress, and while she's not as funny as Bullock here (face it Bullock steals this show) she proves to be a great supporting actress, lending her talents to boost her co-stars performance.

So, in the end I can highly recommend this movie, not because it's the most original and innovative comedy out there but because it's funny; and funny deserves some attention. November 9, 2007

I really liked this movie

I thought this movie was funny and just as good as the first Miss Congeniality. I love the first, I watch it over and over again. It's such a good movie. The second is just as good, with good actors and a funny storyline. Gracie Hart has become the new face of the FBI and she's suddenly into clothes and even hires a professional stylist and hair and makeup people to take care of her. She goes a little overboard, though, until reality gives her a wakeup call and she finds out that her good friends Cheryl and Stan are captured and she wants to save them. She goes to Las Vegas with another tough female agent named Sam (played by Regina King) and she tries to track down who captured them and where they are being held. She and Sam even go undercover as drag queens at a club in Las Vegas just in order to find out where they are. Gracie and Sam don't get along at first, the both fight and don't like each other. But at the end they actually become good friends. It's a funny movie, Sandra Bullock is such a cool person because she doesn't mind look silly. She dresses up as an old lady at an old folks home, she pretends to have cramps, and she wears silly outfits and is really funny. Regina Kind was good and so was Heather Burns, who I loved in the first movie. It has a great message, too, about being yourself and not caring what other people think of you. In the end Gracie goes back to being a field agent and fighting crime and she looks like herself again. She no longer is interested in fashion and makeup. Gracie also encourages a young girl to be herself, too. She goes to the girl's school because the girl wrote a report about her and speaks in front of the class. Gracie Hart's a good role model for young girls. And so is Sandra Bullock, in real life. Overall, I really loved this movie. I'll buy it and add it to my collection. April 24, 2007
