Having bought the original CD back in 1989, I must admit I was quite disappointed with it at the time. It seemed disjointed and incomplete. That's all been corrected now with the release of the DVD of 'The Event' recorded in June 1989 in Wembley Stadium.
The DVD runs for over two hours and is broken into two distinct sets. The first is the 40 minute 'Oh Boy' set, referring to the original pop TV program that Cliff was a regular member of. It is a tribute to Rock and Rock and only features one song that Cliff recorded as a single namely 'Do You Want To Dance?'
'Cliff's Set' runs for about an hour and and a half and contains twenty of his most famous hits to that point in time. 'Miss You Nights', 'We Don't Talk Anymore', and 'Wired for Sound' are all extremely well done. No sign though of 'Living Doll' or 'Devil Woman'.Jet Harris and Tony Meehan of the orginal Drifters/Shadows join in on 'Move It', but if you are looking for the rest of the Shadows you'll be disappointed. Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett are no where to be seen on the DVD but I know they were involved in the concert (thus the four out of five rating).
Cliff's newest album in 1989 was 'Stronger' and several of its great songs are featured in the concert including 'Joanna' and 'Best of Me'. Two of the songs from this live CD/DVD were also released as singles. They were 'Silhouettes' and the million seller 'From A Distance'. It is quite touching to see Cliff brought to tears at the end of 'From A Distance'.
Cliff could never be accused of not having enough energy but in this concert his energy level is nothing short of remarkable. Many have said this is Cliff's best concert ever. It's certainly the best I've seen.
Never mind the World Tour DVD,'From A Distance - The Event'is a must for all Cliff Richard fans. June 14, 2005

This DVD totally blows away "World Tour." The show was taped in 1989 at Wembly Stadium. Cliff was extremely energetic and put on an amazing performance. He has never sounded better.

This DVD also has an awesome set list that contains most of his US hits like "We Don't Talk Anymore," "Dreamin'" and "Daddy's Home." The one huge missing hit is "Devil Woman."

The best reason to buy this one is the awesome DTS sound. It is amazing and well worth the price, even if you didn't get the video with it! April 29, 2005
