Worth a rental, due to Kelly's charming personality.
The Dixie Chicks may be ashamed that the President is from Texas, but I'm sure they're proud that Kelly Clarkson is a Texan. She is definitely one of the sweetest and smoothest talkers around. I think she needs her own talk show.
Even though the main feature (it's in widescreen) is only 40 minutes long and features NO music videos, I still found most of it to be both interesting and quite entertaining, simply because of the pure easy-going personality and charm of Kelly Clarkson. The segment in the studio, as she sings parts of "Because of You", is especially well-done. However, the 20 second live concert footage of her singing "Beautiful Disaster", looks awful! I also could have done without most of the tiresome camping footage, and the brief, but too often shown, black and white footage, that they used over and over again as segment dividers, which feature Kelly putting her hand up, while "Miss Independent" plays. They should have used a different scene each time, to at least add some variety. And although some of the stuff she does, is a bit dull, I'd still give this main feature a grade of B+, because Kelly is just too charming to ignore.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Although Kelly's very cute and often amusing in the 90 second bloopers bonus (I'd give it a grade of B), especially when she accidentally burps, the rest of the special features pale in comparison. The five minute, 'The Making of Breakaway', has so little coverage of the video, it's basically a complete waste of space on this Dvd (I'd give it a grade of C minus, although that's probably too generous). The 8.5 minute, 'Kelly's Camping Camera', is often dull, and has two large white squares in the center of the screen, and a flashing red, REC, displayed on the screen the entire time, to remind you that you're watching video camera footage. Stylish perhaps, but I found it extra annoying! At least we get to see Kelly in her dark-framed glasses the whole time (something different at least), and more of her shy, but pretty friend Jessica, so I'll give it a mercy grade of C minus. However, this camping theme was previously handled much better in a MTV Newlyweds" episode with another Jessica...Jessica Simpson (although, even that episode got boring fast).
So, yes, I enjoyed the main feature and the very brief bloopers, but I still think this is only worth a rental, unless you can get a cheap copy for the same price. Y'all keep checking the bargain bins at Walmart etc., and you should come across one, sooner or later. September 1, 2007
Not a music video, no audio tracks for music
not what it is advertised to be
just wrong
"This DVD includes six featured music tracks..."
You might expect 6 music videos on a DVD with that description, but in this case you'd be wrong. Evidently they justify this claim by the tiny little slices of the songs that play behind the home movie/documentary.
Really disappointing and deceptive. Such a shame that a seemingly genuine and talented singer would have her name on this. August 13, 2006
