On the Night (1993)

Awesome high energy concert - great sound and set selection!

This is one of my favorite concert DVDs. Even though there are no audio setup selections the sound is fantastic!
Mark Knopfler (lead singer and composer) really lacks animation in contrast to the rest of the group, but the concert is lively just the same.
Lighting is amazing - visuals and close ups are excellent.
The only way it could be better is with Blu ray and 5.1 audio perhaps. August 18, 2008

Dire Straits on the Night DVD

This is great guitar and band rock and roll at its best. The venue is a large outdoor stadium that is packed. I did not have any problem with the 2.o sound, it was just as good as 5.1 surround sound to me. I give this one a five star rating even thought it does not have Sultans of Swing. The other songs especially Heavy Fuel more than make up for this. This is an excellent concert DVD well worth the purchase. June 16, 2008

A Classic

Just stunning even after all these years. Shame Sultans of Swing isn't there, but the rest definitely make up for it. If you saw this show over a decade ago, it'll bring back great memories. May 1, 2008

Fabulous, unforgettables 1993 Dire Straits

I just finished watching this DVD performance of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits musicians on their tour in 1993. No, I didn't purchase the DVD for $116 plus change as I am not a millionaire. I watched it on Netflix. I hope to be able to purchase this DVD as it is a priceless reminder of superb musical skill, and yes it is true there were a few favorites left out such as Sultans of Swing, but the intensity of the perfomances were remarkable.
If you can afford it buy it. It's a classic. February 9, 2008

Good concert, DVD is good but could be better

This DVD doesn't contain many songs, but what it does have are some of Dire Straits' hits from albums such as On Every Street, Brothers In Arms, and others. It's great to watch Dire Straits play these songs. Mark Knopfler's guitar playing is great as always, as is his unique voice and singing. The vocal harmonies on some of the songs (i.e. Walk Of Life) sound excellent.

The downside to this DVD is that it only has stereo audio (no surround mix), and the video is in the 1.33 aspect ratio (square, not wide screen). There are also no extras, and the DVD doesn't come with any notes or anything. This is why I only give it 4 stars; however, this is a great concert overall. One nice thing about the DVD is that it is region-free. I would recommend this for any Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fan. January 29, 2008
