I've been a comic-book fan since I was 11, but I had never heard of Daredevil...
The movie (theatrical version) introduced me to DD... and I instantly fell in love with him!!
Then I discovered the Director's Cut version, and I have to say this is much better than the first one. It's 30 minutes longer and has a secondary plotline which explains many dark spots in the first one. Plus, it's a darker, grittier movie, which, in my opinion, is much more faithful to the original atmosphere in the comics.
This movie has just one weak point: Special Effects. SOME (not all of them) are bad... but this was due to low budget... The Director is not to blame!!

I love this movie. July 4, 2008

Daredevil has been in the Marvel Comics Universe since 1964. In that time, he's gone through many changes. (The same can be said for just about any comic super hero.)

It's a great challenge to create a Super Hero movie. The movie must appeal to a wide range of viewers, ranging from those of us who were there in the beginning, to those who've seen the comics in the decades since, and those who've never read the comics.

In my opinion, the best super hero movies honor the comic book image of the character. Again, that's not easy if the character has changed over several decades.

When I heard about this movie, I was skeptical.

Ben Affleck as Daredevil?! Isn't he too thin?! (I remember the Johnny Romita version of Daredevil.)

The entire cast was well-chosen. Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner were great together as Daredevil and Elektra. Michael Clarke Duncan was great as Kingpin, and Colin Ferrell was great as Bullseye.

I loved the movie, and so did my ex-wife... She was never a comics fan.. so that is a great recommendation! June 29, 2008

excellent purchase again, fast turn around and exactly what you expect to get, if not more than you expect to get June 20, 2008

Jennifer Garner actually can do this stuff...it makes you feel sorry for Ben
Affleck having to do fight scenes with her. The ending just isn't your "Kill Bill" blood everywhere revenge. It is a sad story with an kind of upbeat point of view with a mystery of the Mother's necklace.
From a Marvel comics point of view, it is an upgrade for the second line superhero, the Daredevel, to put him in the ranks of Spiderman and Batman.
Ben Affleck is too gentle a fellow for this type of role and probably shouldn't have been cast for it: he is more a Gary Cooper type "reluctant hero" than the revenge crazed blind man. It needed a person who has a glow of inner torment... he did a good job anyway. April 4, 2008

The Director's Cut of Mark Steven Johnson's Daredevil is a much better film than its theatrical cut, mostly because of the fact that there's more depth to this cut. In my opinion, Marvel has had only two real failures, Hulk (2003) and The Punisher (2004), and those films are being remade as we speak, in the form of The Incredible Hulk and Punisher: War Zone, with TIH scheduled for release on June 13, 2008 and P:WZ set for release on December 5, 2008. Like I stated in the title, Daredevil (2003) is now in my opinion one of the three best Marvel movies, with the other two being Blade and X-Men. The sequels to those two films aren't that bad either. Unfortunately, the downside to this DVD release is that, like Spider-Man 2.1, the original bonus material is lacking, and a new featurette, along with the teaser trailers to AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and I, Robot (2004), and a commentary track takes its place. There is more substance to Daredevil, which sets it apart from the Spider-Man and Fantastic Four franchises, which are geared more towards children. It is also separated from independent features like Ghost Rider (2007), (which is a hybrid of dark horror, and the campiness of the Spider-Man (2002) and Fantastic Four (2005) franchises)as well as Man-Thing (2005), (which is strictly Sci-Fi/Horror). I have a feeling that this year's Iron Man will fall along the lines of either Spider-Man or Fantastic Four, and The Incredible Hulk may too. Punisher: War Zone may be the only dark Marvel movie of the year. In conclusion, you'll probably like Daredevil if you appreciate comic-book movies with depth. March 29, 2008
