Perhaps not the greatest movie ever, but it deserves respect for applying the low-fi/handycam/guerrilla film-making ethos of BLAIR WITCH to the serial killer subgenre. It also deserves some props for originality. There are some genuinely creepy and some genuinely funny moments (and more than a few instances that are equal parts both.) Surprisingly, there was very little explicit gore -- most of it was implied, ie, it happened off-camera.

Like a good punk rock song, THE LAST HORROR MOVIE is simple, clever, entertaining, and short, though admittedly not the last word on refinement or artsy-ness (except in an ironic sense.) June 9, 2008

I liked this movie for the overall twistedness of this movie. This is a very different prospective of a horror movie and very enjoyable to watch. It is inside the mind of a serial killer and what he is thinking about when he killing. It is a "mocumentary" of a serial killer's film. He does keep asking the viewer: Why are you still watching? Does this turn you on? I do recommend this movie to anyone that likes a "different type of horror movie".

Some people have tried to say that this movie is so brilliant because it brings up issues about morality or good and evil. I can see why some might feel that way, but I thought those issues were brought up in such a fake and forced manner in the movie, that it seemed irrelevant, not smart. Cetainly not credible. The ending is laughable, not a bit scary. In fact, nothing about this movie is scary, it is just a big snooze fest. If you're out of Ambien, rent this movie, it should put you right to sleep!
In the universe of films, ALL films not just horror films, THIS my friends is about as boring as a movie can get. There is no subtle message about morality here, just self-indulgent nonsense. It could have been an interesting idea but it was just beaten down by being so boring. November 14, 2006

I love this movie, but it's well-nigh impossible to review. If I even begin to describe this film in any way, I'm going to do the story a disservice - and I'm going to rob you, the viewer, of a uniquely visceral horror experience. Under the right conditions (and of course I can't even tell you what those conditions are), The Last Horror Movie is capable of giving you the kind of thrills and chills that all horror fans crave and oh so seldom experience. Under any conditions, however, the true horror buff must appreciate the vision of this singular project and the man who brings it to you. As for horror newbies, oh how I envy you right now - I really do. Of course, you've more than likely already seen a plot summary, but no one can say that I gave anything away to the potential viewer.

If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I don't write short ones. Believe me, there is much I would like to discuss about this film, as it speaks to the concepts of good and evil, the horror movie audience in general, and you - yes, you - in particular. Just watch it, and you'll see what I mean. I will offer you one piece of advice, though - rent this film from your local video store. You'll thank me later - uh, or maybe you won't. October 18, 2006
