About The Ruining

- The Ruining is a tale of sex, drugs and human breeding! - While traditional family values are disturbingly challenged, the grime and grit of late 70’ s and early 80’s horror cinema are ever present in The Ruining, a tale of horrifying and lascivious behavior. The Ruining is Erin Brockovich meets Deliverance by way of Class of Nuke’Em High!!- Filmed over ten years and finally completed with a government check donated by a Vietnam Veteran exposed to Agent Orange, The Ruining is not only a film with classic elements of the best horror and gore films, but a triumph for the director and independent cinema as a whole.- The Ruining stars cult legend Wings Hauser (Vice Squad, LA Bounty) and comedian Patrick Warburton ("Seinfeld", "The Tick", Men In Black II).- Two Los Angeles couples run into trouble on a remote mountain camping trip where government drilling poisoned the water in a small town thirty years earlier. Half of the town died and those that were left are! horribly addicted to psychedelic eggs bred by fiendish farmer Henry Behrens. When the strangers enter into his domain the stage is set for selective breeding and feeding of human flesh.

This is a Troma release, if you don't expect it to be a poor quality film you're wrong, out of all the titles that have been released over the years, this is absolutely one of my favorite Troma films ever put out. It's insane, edgy, and over the top in every way. February 21, 2008

Made over a period of no less than ten years under terrible circumstances and loaded with bad luck, this is one of the best horror films of the past decades. It has the intelligence of other recently made low-budget films and the atmosphere of the beautiful works we saw in the late seventies and early eighties. Due to a lot of rip-offs and other unforeseen bad luck (wonderfully explained in the extra's on the DVD) the only surviving print was the workprint, which wasn't in the best of shape, but weirdly enough the scratches and sometimes slightly incorrect colors only add to the atmosphere of this wonderful, shocking and entertaining piece of art. We can only thank Troma for deciding to give this masterpiece a release in spite of the technical imperfections rather that not releasing it at all. For anyone with an interest in the wonderful horror of decades ago and the sinister and disturbing look of serious terror this is one film not to miss! July 11, 2006

"The Ruining" is one of Troma's most maligned movies, and the sad news is that you can easily see its detractors' points. The film quality in sections is really bad, and the plot is more than a little difficult to follow at times. In fact, there is a part near the end where it seems like a whole scene has gone missing. The writer/director would have done well to make the backstory behind this whole tale a little less obscure.

Despite all of those weaknesses, however, it's really not that terrible of a movie. The actors did a good job for the most part, and the plot was very strange and original. The movie had its share of sexy scenes, and (amazingly) most of them actually do serve a purpose. The film had a strong underlying message about the importance of family and a warning to not treat others like [...].. it can really backfire. I loved the ending!!! (Up until it got REALLY weird, that is.)

Anyway, this was a decent movie overall. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but don't be afraid to try it if you see it on sale somewhere. From Troma, of course! June 26, 2006

I really like Patrick Warburton's work and bought this because he was featured..ha! They put his name on case cover but he has a non speaking walk on in a crowded smoky nudie bar,,,The disc feature about the making was far more interesting than the flick itself,I felt less cheated about the purchase when I saw how sincere and disappointed the makers were about the acceptance of their product,,this movie has damn little plot and lots of nudity,,some incest and plenty of backwoods sinnin if thats yr bag go for it,,otherwise shy away from it. I see much similarity between those losers who think they can sing on American Idol and those directors/producers who think they have a movie/story to tell..oh well,,,I had to give one star as no star is not an option, Becky is a scantily clothed adult who thinks she is a dog,,leading to my shaggy dog (a story without any real point) header choice.
