I have to admit that I honestly believed the 1976 remake of King Kong was the worst movie ever made- until I watched this absolutely ludicrous absurdity. Linda Hamilton was, and is one of my favorite actresses, but her talent was totally wasted in this pathetic excuse of a movie. I assume that this film came after the director ( John Guillerman ) was pronounced brain-dead. It seems like something a few first-graders might have considered a good idea.
The monkey suits were nearly as bad as the intentionally fake one in the Eddie Murphy movie, TRADING PLACES. The writing, special effects, and sets were also terrible. Only a stoner, or a complete masochistic moron could enjoy this silly piece of drivel.
May 24, 2008I am a true and loyal King Kong fan. I personally love the 1976 version alot better than the other two. This movie was not good at all. I was excited when I heard the concept of Kong not being dead, but this was very poorly executed. The characters from Kong 1976 were not at all present in this film, not even in name. The 10 year time frame from his fall off the twin towers to his heart transplant was far too long. I pretend to myself that this movie doe not exist. King Kong was better off dead at the foot of the World Trade Center than to have been in this movie.
May 2, 2008Serious Comedy:-)
Keep that in mind before sitting down to enjoy, one of the most unbelievable movies of all time. Suspends all belief, while at the same time tickling your funny bone. The transplant surgery is cinematic gold. You'll never see anything like it again ... thank God.
And then, we get Monkey Love! Kong and Lady get down and dirty, resulting in baby Kong. Bloody death scene for Kong at the end by way of tanks, making it the most heavy scene of the film.
Other than that, there's nothing more to report. Basically, if Kong farted this movie would be the result . . . popcorn anyone:-)

King Kong Lives! is the 1986 sequel to the 1976 movie of King Kong. The film was directed by John Guillerman and starred Linda Hamilton & Brian Kerwin. After being shot down from the World Trade Center, Kong is kept alive in a coma at the Atlantic Institute for about 10 years by a doctor named Amy Franklin. In order to save Kong's life, Franklin must perform a heart transplant and give Kong an artificial heart. However, he loses so much blood that a transfusion is badly needed. Enter Hank Mitchell & Lady Kong. Mitchell brings her to the Institute to provide her blood for the transfusion. The transfusion and the heart transplant are a success. Yet, Kong & his newfound mate escapes. An insane army colonel is called in with his men to hunt down and kill the two apes. Only Lady Kong is caught & Kong presumably falls to his death. He soon returns to try and rescue his mate yet Kong's heart begins to give out. That's pretty much the premise of the movie. While it was generally perceived as a failure at the box office & even touted as being a 'boring' movie, King Kong Lives!-in my opinion- isn't that bad a movie. Sure, it has its' moments but this sequel reminded of alot of old Japanese Kaiju Eiga movies(giant monster flicks). Considering the budget it was made with, it's understandable that this movie wasn't as great as the 1976 blockbuster. While it may not be the type of Kong movie we're used to watching, it's definitely worth it to have as part of your Kong collection if you can find it at the low price I found it at.
March 22, 2008Hard to believe this was ever greenlit! Horrid story, bad acting and laughably bad sfx. Kinda good for a laugh though. Not quite "so bad it's good" like "Plan 9 From Outer Space", but just plain bad.
