Not the best documentary that I've seen, but it has it's parts. The most interesting part, in my opinion, of this film is that it's the beginning of the Rave Act.
May 13, 2007This could have been made a whole lot better. I'm certain it wasn't fair for all those talented DJ's and musicians to be a part of this movie, because it wasn't put together the way you'd think. It's not a documentary on how Disco Donnie was put on trial or anything, it's more like "Here's 3 Easy Steps On Becoming A Raver: Nevermind those Freaks" The soundtrack is pretty good, with Q-Bert and Crystal Method, but the whole package really isn't up to par with Groove, Human Traffic, etc.
September 16, 2005Living in Houston and driving to parties in NO almost every weekend I expected a lot more from this DVD. I know its hard to capture everyones experience or view but overall too many blurry shots, not enough clear, focus shots, and the editing didn't help either. The bonus scenes of the 'Rave Act' made the DVD for me. I would probably agree with the other reviewer when he says you might find it boring if you weren't there or know anyone in it; i can see that point. But it is a keeper for me because it did bring back some great memories of Zoolu, 50ft Raver Zombies, Yars Revenge, Summer Fever....and many, many more. I recommend this DVD to the people who had the privilege to experience the parties during that time.
June 7, 2004Rise is your typical documentary that explains what the rave scene was like in New Orleans. One thing it definetly helps you understand is why, the ravers, promoters and the DJs decided to do this for their lifestyle. The one part viewers must see, is in the bonus section, where another documentary about the R.A.V.E. act and the aftermath of Donnie's war against the government is told. If you've come across this DVD cause you're into electronic music, watch this so you can see what lies behind your ability to party on a saturday night, LEGALLY!
