Jami Gertz at her best!

I admit that my purchase of this movie is because of Jami Gertz. Becoming an admirer of her because of her television series Still Standing, I am determined to see her other work, some of which I've never seen before. I'm not disappointed at all with this purchase. Jami is a real delight in this film. She gives a great performance with much subtlety and emotional variety. But most important for me is how likable she is--something I find in almost all of her performances. When I watch Jami, I think to myself, "This is someone I'd marry". Her characters are usually that likable for me. (Note, Jami Gertz is happily married. It's her performances that elicit this response in me.) By the way, Jami can also play more intense characters, such as Kat in Lip Service.
Additionally, Dylan McDermott does a great job as well. I feel they have great chemistry on screen. Perhaps this film is a bit formulaic for some, but for me it's a time-tested formula that stands up. If you're in the mood for an enjoyable romantic film, look no further. July 8, 2008

I love the 80's movies!

Ok, its a little cheesy at times, and a little predictable, but i still love it! I love all the 80's movies, but this ones great because its not just another teen movie. The idea that a girl from "the other side of town", can end up with a hot shot from the city is cool. I love the ending, mcdermott look veeeryyyy nice all wet, lol!!! March 23, 2008

A classic sweet story

Living in Europe as a teenager my mom and I use to rent this movie when we would miss our home in north NJ. I grew up watching this movie several times a year and now share it with friends whom move to the NJ/NY area. Not one for chick flicks, this is one of a couple that I truely love and enjoy everytime I view it. The story line is simple and the characters are funny. The romance plot isn't as realistic as some people seek, but it is what it is - a chick flick with a heart warming ending. I actually feel the romance has more development in here than any modern day chick flick. Most movies just hop from "hello" to the bed scene with out showing the details of how the couple gets there.

I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a great romance rainy day movie. If you are open minded, need a good laugh and get a kick of 80s culture then this is a movie for you. My only complaint is the soundtrack is great and I wish they had come out with a cd soundtrack of the music. Queen Latifa sings the opening number, come on - can't get better than that!

Like another reviewer pointed out this is far better than Ben Afleck's attempt in 2003 and Braff's Garden State.

liked it very much!

I really liked this movie. I always like movies about people ending up with people that are supposed to be out of their league. It's the character of a person; not their lifestyle. Great movie. February 15, 2008
