About The Video Songbook

In a world overflowing with musical imitators, The Singing Rage- Miss Patti Page remains an original! Now the barefoot girl from Claremore, Oklahoma, is back! Always beautifully dressed and coiffed, she performs 18 delightful staged numbers of the classic songs that made her famous.

Patti Page has released over 80 albums and 157 singles (with sales of over 70,000,000)- an astounding 110 of which reached the Billboard charts. She had 13 Gold Records.

A musical pioneer, she was the first to record with the now-standard overdubbing process, singing lead and background vocals. She was also the first artist to become a "crossover" sensation.

Patti’s beauty, vocal purity and unpretentious style have placed her in a category of her own, earning her the respect of fellow artists and love of millions of fans. "The Patti Page Sound" can be both warm and fiery hot, religious in feeling, but also provocative. But whether happy, melancholy or brazen, it is always real!

V.I.E.W. Video is proud to present "Patti Page Video Songbook, an outstanding historical tribute to one of the greatest pop and country artist ever!

rating: 5 QuotePatti Page America's Favorite Female Vocalist of the 1950's in Performances from The Era Quote
Patti Page was by far the most popular female vocalist in America during the 1950's, the undisputed queen of pop. Even when rock n'roll came along midway in the decade, Patti and her smooth, easy-listening style remained as popular and beloved as ever. In addition to her seemingly endless string of best-selling records, she was on television constantly and for some time had her own variety show. This DVD THE PATTI PAGE VIDEO SONGBOOK (like the other Patti DVD PATTI PAGE SINGS THE HITS) appears to be a compilation of numbers from her program, with the individual song numbers clipped from various episodes rather than full programs. The good news is this collection of 18 performances is completely different from those on PATTI PAGE SINGS THE HITS dvd (the only songs that overlap are "How Much is That Doggie in the Window" and "Mister and Mississippi" which are sung as part of a melody on the other DVD whereas here they are performed in complete versions.) And this DVD contains Patti's signature hit THE TENNESSEE WALTZ which would seem a "must" for any Patti DVD. The print quality of the film used for this DVD is also notably better as well.

Some of the song performances seem to predate music videos with Patti performing them in a setting (ie: a set pet shop for "How Much is That Doggie"..) while others are performed with her simply standing on stage. Thoroughout them all Patti is beautiful and beautifully gowned, looking and singing like a million dollars. Her ladylike demeanor and quiet charm bring back happy memories of an era when all was not loud and brash in show business. Her best loved hits "Doggie" and "Tennessee" may be the standouts here but everything is fine and other highlights include the countryish "Oklahoma Blues" and the jazzy "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans". This DVD is an excellent showcase of one of the classic pop singers at the peak of her career. September 21, 2008

All are original videos from the 50's and 60's. It is a pity that the most well-known hit Changing Partners is not included, otherwise this DVD deserves 5 stars. March 18, 2006
