For the 20 minutes I suffered through this with my 4 1/2 year old, for some reason I kept thinking that this was like the play that was put on by the amateur theater troupe in "Waiting for Guffman", and that somebody must have thought they were being serious when they wrote it. The song "Stools" in Guffman crossed my mind more than once. And who in the world cajoled these well known actors into these speaking roles?

The Ed Asner owl was ludicrous. Why would an owl ever be smoking cigar? And some of the jokes were slyly off color, too. Of course they were way over the head of my daughter, but I am of the opinion that even if something is over their head, they are still hearing it and getting the garbage into their little minds.

The "dwarfelles" were so dumb...why would dwarfs possess magic? and in charge of "the earth", "the thunder," etc. And what in the world was Mother Nature doing in this story? Why didn't they just add in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too?

Finally, the animation was atrocious. It reminded me of those 70's era cheap cartoons where the characters are perfectly still while the mouths are animated.

To its credit, my daughter did like it. She was pretty sad that I turned it off, but I just couldn't stand it anymore...and I've watched a lot of awful, silly cartoons. Before you call me a shrew, please know that I drove back to the rental store and let her pick another DVD to replace this one...20 minutes each way, and she chose "The Last Unicorn" over 101 Dalmations and even the surprisingly okay Barbie As... movies.

I'm sorry for the adjectives I've used: dumb, stupid, etc. My vocabulary is usually much stronger, however, this movie really begs usage of these descriptors. September 1, 2008

The same animation / plot / storyline can be found in the Little Mermaid cartoons. It's too scary for anyone under 5, and has virtually zero plot. The animation is very dark, and half it involves demon-like creatures and dragon that would only appeal to 7-9yr old boys... who wouldn't want to watch this movie in the first place. Disney totally missed their target audience. I'm glad we only rented it. October 20, 2007

Come on, it's a good movie. Sure, Lord Malice is cookie-cuter to the extreme, but it's an animated children's fairy tale, what do you expect? I actually always thought that Malice was the most frightening of all of the Disney villians (even though this isn't Disney). I was dissapointed that the original seven dwarves were nowhere to be seen, but their female cousins are cute and likable enough, espescially Thunderella and Critterena. And I know everybody hates the music, but I actually thought it was pretty good, despite the cliched lyrics in some of the songs. And the Ed Anser-voiced owl Scowl was pretty funny. Overall this is a great movie and your kids will love it. Very underrated. April 4, 2006
