well, admiteddly, this product is ONLY for fans of 80ies music,... but I gotta say I always loved Lionel Richie, and a lot of his songs are really timeless. My personnal favorite will always be "Hello". In fact, I would place "Hello" as my favorite song of all time.

this DVD brings you more than just the greatest songs by the man since you have the actual music videos.. And for a time where there were no computer graphics, some of those videos had pretty amazing effects (such as "Dancing on the Ceiling".

Anyway, if you like good music and you like Lionel Richie, this DVD should be in your collection. July 25, 2008

I was introduced to this DVD through what is simply called "The Lionel Richie Drinking Game." It was invented by people I do not know in California. I will try to get their names on the rules for posterity. The only point of this post is to relay the rules of the game to a wider audience and spread the joy that is Lionel. If you are considering buying this DVD at all, do it. I guarantee you will not regret it and will be buying copies for friends in other cities shortly thereafter. The rules follow.

THE LIONEL RICHIE DRINKING GAME

Lionel has several characteristics and fall-back moves that appear repeatedly in his early music videos. This game is based on watching the DVD and drinking an adult beverage when these things occur. It is interactive in that when one of these things happens, someone must call it out specifically and get group buy-in. This is critical because it leads to hilarious yelling, and there are several times when multiple drinking opportunities appear in the same instant. On to the specific rules.

One must drink when:

1) Lionel is seen with rolled sleeves. This rule applies once per outfit and yelling "Rolled Sleeves!" is sufficient. If he changes outfits halfway through a video and then changes back, you do not drink again.

2) Lionel's chest hair is visible. Similar to #1, this rule applies once per outfit and yelling "Chest Hair!" is sufficient. One added twist is if the amount of exposed chest hair increases for the same outfit (i.e. buttons being undone), it can be called out again.

3) Lionel's rat tail is visible. Just yell "Rat Tail!"

4) Lionel is leaning on something. He does this a lot. Just yell "Leaning!" or "Lean!"

5) Lionel points directly at you (the camera). Just yell "Pointing!" Lionel does this a lot, but also makes hundreds of open hand gestures toward the camera and points in all directions. Drinking only occurs when he points with one finger directly at the camera.

6) Any time Lionel switches from acting as a character in a video back to singing. Yell "Acting to Singing!"

7) Celebrity cameos. There are several of these, notably Cheech Marin and a young Nicole Richie. Yell "Celebrity Cameo!"

8) "GAY!" This is the greatest rule of all and is what makes the game so fun. It is more subjective than the others so group buy-in is critical. If anyone sees something in a video that they would describe as "gay" (not that there is anything wrong with that), they are to yell it out and make a case for it. General consensus is enough to drink.

Prepare yourself for a party that is always fun and never the same twice.

One note on song selection. The people I have played with always skip some songs. Here is the list they use based on my memory.

My Destiny
All Night Long
Love Will Conquer All
You Are
Say You Say Me
Dancing On the Ceiling
Hello

I would definitely recommend finishing the game with the 1-2 punch of "Dancing" and "Hello" but feel free to add in other songs from the DVD based on your own preference. You can use the custom playlist option on the DVD to design the party of your choice. "House Rules" are encouraged as well.

*The purpose of this game is legal fun, and is only suggested for those of drinking age wherever you may reside.

This is just an outstanding DVD. It is like having Lionel right in your living room. The sound is amazing and scary at times due to its power of realism and the videos are so artisticly revealing and entertaining as a result. If you enjoy music at all you have to at least have this one music video collection from Lionel Ritchie. March 7, 2006
