About My World

An arena-ful of fans loved every second of this 68-minute concert (recorded in May 2003 in Buffalo, New York) by then-18-year-old pop sensation Avril Lavigne. And while the singer's charms may elude anyone older than, say, 25, that won't stop the sk8er boyz 'n' gurls who bought her Let Go CD by the millions from digging this, her first DVD, as well. Fact is, Lavigne's rather tuneless, sometimes off-key singing isn't her strong suit. And her songwriting... well, Lennon and McCartney, or even the Go-Go's, are in no danger. But she isn't without talent, and she's got attitude to spare (even if that 'tude has a certain MTV-style lack of conviction or insight). Combine that with the loud, crunching guitars, the anthemic, driving choruses of Lavigne's songs, and tons of bonus features (including a six-song, audio-only CD), and you've got more than enough to keep the kids satisfied. After all, it's a rock show, dude. --Sam Graham Amazon.com

The tours are entertaining and her band grosses me out, this DVD includes 4 music videos (Complicatd, I'm with you, Knockin on heaven's door, and Sk8er Boi). It also comes with a small CD of her live! Avril also sings all of her songs from her first album, "Let Go", plus Basket Case, Knockin On heaven's door, and I don't give! But here's the catch: Avril Lavigne doesn't sound too great live >_<. Her voice is all hoarse and NOT smooth AT ALL! I was extremely surprised when I listened to her sing live, let me tell you this: She doesn't sound ANYTHING like how she does on her CD!

However, once you get used to her new style of singing, it actually isn't that bad! So yes, I would DEFINITELY recomend this DVD/CD to you! BUY IT NOW! =) February 18, 2008

In her best fase, she sing with attitude, does gr8 music and prepares perfect video clips. Special attention to "Knocking On The Heaven's Door" where she is engaged to a humanitary issue. May 15, 2007

I thoroughly enjoyed her DVD 'My World'. Avril is very talented for her age. I have a lot of admiration and respect for her. Go Avril! I'm looking forward to receiving her latest CD/DVD limited edition combo 'The Best Damn Thing': The Best Damn Thing (CD/DVD Deluxe Limited Edition) April 7, 2007

I have this DVD and it's a great deal. You get a brief on the road documentary of Avril on her first tour; you also get a complete performance from one of her concerts featuring all the songs on the first album (and then some). It's obvious to anyone objective that Avril's singing wasn't very good when she first came out. However, I recently caught a performance of her from Mad TV, singing my favorite song from her second CD. I have to say it was incredible. It's obvious that she has put the time in to her craft and is turning into a phenomenal artist. Given how phenomenal she is now, I dont understand why her record company hasnt released a new DVD.... Show-3 stars
Extras/Bonus CD-4.5 stars
Overall-3.75 stars

The back of this DVD screams "Avril like she's never been seen before", and while that may be true, it's still nothing to write home about. Don't get me wrong, I like Avril Lavigne just as much as the next person but this performance is just above being mediocre. Sure all the energy that makes a show great is there, she sounds good through about 3/4 of the concert and the band sounds like they do on the CD. Why the meager rating then? As much as I like Let Go I don't think that gave her grounds to release a concert in which she plays pretty much every song on it. There's songs I'm just flat out sick of by now so I don't really want to see them played live. However, Losing Grip, amazing.

The real reason to buy this is for the bonus CD. I personally liked her rendition of the Metallica great Fuel simply because it was so different from the original. Also, one of my favorite Avril songs is included, Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Performed acoustically, Avril's voice has never sounded more pristine and sincere. The DVD extras aren't too shabby either. The videos, minus Sk8er Boi, are pretty good and the inclusion of Knockin' only impressed me more. And the behind-the-scenes will be fun for any fan to see.

Basically if you like Avril enough to buy a CD of hers you'll like this as well. While the show isn't particularly mind-blowing the CD and extras more than make up for it. So yeah, if you can find it cheap (12.99 isn't bad but I found it for 6.99 so just keep an eye out) then by all means check it out. August 28, 2006
