Dawn French stars in this quirky BBC comedy series from writer Simon Nye ("Men Behaving Badly"). In the small Cornish village of St. Gweep, shopkeepers Mary Tregwednack (French) and Angela Phillips (Catherine Tate) have settled into an unlikely relationship thanks to the shortage of single, eligible men. The series explores their close friendship, and the lives of their friends: lonely fisherman Old Jake (David Bradley); Holly (Anne-Marie Duff) who runs the Witchcraft Centre ("and", as Mary points out, "may actually be a wickedy weirdy witch"); Harry (Richard Mylan), and Jeff Dax (Sean Foley), owner of the Coach & Horses Pub with his deaf wife Daphne.

Having the advantage to film extensively in Cornwall, the series has amazing photography and uses the coastlines and seas of the area to great effect.

Includes the entire first series:

"One Home Good, Two Homes Bad" - Harry decides to stage a protest against all those who own holiday homes, so Mary sets the trend by squatting in Gilly's luxurious cottage. With Liza Goddard.

"Fear of Bungee" - Wanting to experience some more excitement, Angela organises for a crew of bungee jumpers to visit St Gweep, and Mary decides to help the children of the village (in her own special way)...

"Swingers" - When Old Jake goes missing, Mary and Angela decide to ransack his home, whilst Jeff and Daphne start to entertain open-minded couples upstairs at the Coach & Horses...

"Tin Tin Tin" - A powercut plunges St Gweep into darkness, but Angela, appointed as the town "Czar", has matters well in hand. Meanwhile, Mary decides to use the situation to bring Holly and Harry closer together...

"A Problem Shared is a Problem Doubled" - Angela is reminded of a painful incident from her past when former headmistress Miss Peppard visits St Gweep.

"Un, Deu, Try, Figo, Quiggly" - Holly decides that the villagers need to be reminded of their colourful Cornish language. Meanwhile a tall, dark and handsome stranger arrives in town...has Angela found love at last?...

From the DVD cover--- "Mary Tregwednack lives above her post office in the fictitous Cornish Village of St Gweep with her neurotic partner Angela. Lesbians until something better comes up, they enjoy the cosy security of life in a tight-knit coastal community, but their chances of finding suitable men are more remote than the village itself..... For behind this picture-postcard exterior, witchcraft and wife-swapping are more a way of life than cream teas and Cornish pastries. Here, the village bobbie is a Police Calendar's Mr March, the cosy pub hosts swingers' evenings and the local museum is dedicated to witchcraft....." The Daily Star "Dawn proves she does have the Midas touch in this comedy"

Complete Series one--nearly 3 hours of episodes that will keep you coming back for more..you can't help but laugh your way through them. December 13, 2005
