About G.I. Joe: The Movie
Our favorite American hero has returned in this rerelease of the now cult-classic G.I. Joe movie from 1987. Once again G.I. Joe must protect the world from total obliteration. Cobra, the deadliest of foes and leader of an underground race of snake people, is proving to be a great threat to humankind. After spending many generations underground, he plans to take over the world again (with the help of his evil foes Pythona and Serpentor) by releasing deadly spores into the atmosphere. These spores can transform all life into the weakest of creatures, which means humans could potentially devolve into amoebas. However, in order to accomplish this, Cobra must acquire the Broadcast Energy Transmitter. (The BET activates the spores.) Luckily G.I. Joe is there to stop Cobra and his evil army. There are terrific fight scenes in which nobody gets hurt (like in all great A-Team episodes) and the cartoon style is true to the G.I. Joe character. All your favorite G.I. Joe characters are here, including Falcon, Bazooka, Alpine, Duke, Snowjob, and Roadblock. Starring voices also help lend a hand: Don Johnson, Burgess Meredith, and Sergeant Slaughter. Forever and always G.I. Joe will be "fighting for freedom wherever there's trouble, over land and sea and air!" --Samantha Allen Storey Amazon.com

This movie was it back in 1987 for 10 year olds like me! The opening sequence that has Cobra launching an all out attack on the Statue of Liberty while the Joes fight them off is unforgettable and one of the coolest movie intros ever. Then we get the fantastic assault on Cobra Island by a seemingly unstoppable assailant that ends with Serpentor's throne room being infiltrated. Classic. The intro of new Joes and Cobra La didn't sit well with some but the movie itself is full of great action and dramatic moments. The scene where a blinded Roadblock barely escapes Cobra La, rescues an injured and left for dead Cobra Commander and carries him piggyback style to safety is a great example of this. The animation is the best it ever was for the series with alot of cool effects. Although the origins and histories of characters in the cartoon differ greatly from Larry Hama's excellant Marvel Comics series of the 1980's and early 90's G.I. Joe was one of the finest action cartoons of its time which was a golden age of after school viewing with great cartoons like He-Man & The Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Voltron, Thundercats, Robo-Tech, MASK, Wheeled Warriors, C.O.P.S., The Real Ghostbusters and Duck Tales. This is a must have for kids of the 1980's!
October 21, 2008I know it was an 80's children's cartoons I decided to buy this DVD is my attempts to "recapture my childhood" and I wasn't disappointed! The movie itself was okay but the DVD extras are what make this a "must-keep" for me. It this particular movie, the Joes try to stop Cobra from deeolving the world through these organic spores. In this movie the true ancient origins of Cobra(la) are FINALLY revealed.
The movie marked a landmark in GI Joe storylines. Most the old-time favorite Joes and Cobras appeared. Many new characters also made their debut (Lt. Falcon, the Renegades, Nemesis Enforcer, etc). However, the movie itself may NOT be the best feature of this DVD. The exclusive DVD features are. This movie may be the begining and the end of the era or cartoon. You can be the judge of this.
August 12, 2008i loved it growing up and now my son loves watching it-still a classic and i think its better than transformers the movie.

G.I. Joe the movie had it all when released in 1987. Action, humor and new characters. The plot which introduces new characters such as Falcon, Jinx, Tunnel Rat & Law is stil awe inspiring. While the villians such as Sepenator and Cobra Commandor play the villian roles perfectly. I love this movie and watching nowadays as a 20 year old man takes me back to my childhood of playing with toys. If you loved G.I. Joes as a chlid and haven't seen this movie you're in for a treat. I can't wait for the live action movie that comes out next summer.

Also unlike the Transformers movie, it doesnt play like a movie, it just has the same score from the Tv series and kinda plays like one long episode.
