| | Funny urban comedy from the direct to video prince of urban comedies Brain Hooks | |
The Chatroom once again displays the talents of little known comic Brain Hooks. In this film he plays a guy trying to find love on the net, not knowing it's been under his nose the whole time. The film is funny and proves the point that no one is ever who they say on the net.

June 25, 2006I have a roommate who continually picks up obscure movies from the bargain bin; and more often that not, the movies selected are absolutely dreadful. Perhaps it's the low expectations that come with the territory, but I thought "Chat Room" was outstanding. Despite never really hearing any of the actors, I thought they were hilarious, and much better than established "comedians" of the genre. It's about four dudes and a bet to bring the most beautiful date to their 10 year high school reunion. The plot is formulaic to say the least, but there's a reason it's called formula, it works! Ultimately, I'd say this is definitely worth checking out, as it's a very funnny movie. Definitely a thumbs up...
April 24, 2006This movie was low-budget compared to most comedies, and the only time I see it on TV is when it comes on the Starz-Black channel every now and then, you can't even find it in Best Buy or Circuit City, but it is the funniest movie I have ever seen...period. It's got disgusting moments because it is satarizing the idea of the stereotypical internet date. The stereotype is that people who try to hook up with others on the internet, particularly in chat rooms, are doing that because they can't meet people normally - for good reasons. They are ugly as hell, disgusting or crazy or combinations of the above and this movie takes those stereotypes to the extreme with the dates that get set up with three average, everyday guys who decide to use the internet as a way to find a really attractive woman, and wind up meeting total wackos. Their reactions to these women are especially hilarious. People who can actually laugh at Wayans brothers comedies and other comedies that pathetically attempt to imitate the style of Zooker brothers movies like Airplane and The Naked Gun (the Zookers are the only people that can successfully pull off that type of humor), and fail miserably at it, should watch a movie like this where all the money goes into the writing and not stupid rediculous stunts.
