About Robbie Williams - Live at the Albert

Recorded before the U.K. release of Swing While You're Winning, Robbie Williams's renditions of pop standards on Live at the Albert are at once delightful and disorienting. It's long been known that Williams is enamored of the Rat Pack, and here he lives out an illusion of being one of them. Clearly the jaunty singer is having a ball. The production is impeccable, the chorus girls are beautiful, his voice is in fine form--even his sweat-soaked, cuff-linked shirt hangs on him perfectly. But often Williams's trademark sarcasm and well-documented insecurities overshadow his love of the music. The strangest moment of the show occurs during an intermission, when MC Rupert Everett quizzes the audience on how much they love Robbie Williams. Although delivered with a wink, the stunt is most un-Rat Pack-like. The show as a whole seems like a surreal dream in which Robbie is at once working out his self-doubt and living his fantasy. And on a very conscious level, that is exactly what he is doing. --Beth Massa Amazon.com

If you are one of those folks who hasn't experienced this DVD, it is a must that you go out to the shop and look for it. It is that good!!
I didn't see the concert, didn't even see it on TV. But the little note on Robbie's latest album Swing When You Are Winning, told me that it is certainly something to look forward to. Little did I know Robbie is so capable to touch someone with his voice. It surprised me and I couldn't help thinking, Robbie is on the road to super stardom!!

Congratulations to a wonderful concert indeed! I gave it a 4 because the disc is somewhat short on features, otherwise I'd have given it a five. I wish, really wish there'll be a DVD of all of Robbie's videos, as I am dying to see more of him.

No, I wasn't a big fan to start with. But let's forget about that, nevermind the tabloid, forget about what your impression of Robbie is. Take a break and enjoy this concert.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be touched, you'll be thrilled!

Rob says "Mom, this is your son singing, I love you". He did make his mom proud! And like everybody else here, I almost cried when I saw "My Way". I am totally a fan of Robbie now. He has won big this time!

Fantastic! Robbie Williams is a true all round entertainer as well as a great singer. The DVD really captures the atmosphere of the Albert Hall. The interaction with the guests and audience is very relaxed and revealing with the behind the scenes interactions. January 12, 2008

I can't understand why Robbie Williams is not popular in America. He is wonderful - he has personality, talent and charisma. If you are a fan of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr., as well as Bobby Darin I highly recommend this DVD. It is wonderful. October 17, 2007

This was a very disappointing performance from Robbie Williams. Williams had a sterling chance to give a great tribute concert to the Brits at Albert Hall in England, honoring the rat pack with many of their signature songs. Singing songs such as: the Lady is a tramp, beyond the Sea, Mr. Bojangles, it was a very good year, Mack the knife and many others, he does a pretty good job of singing between raunchy talk of drug using and farting and others. It took a pretty good concert and made it look cheap. Too bad Robbie... you'll always be a second rate singer from a 10th rate country. Sad... Williams obviously doesn't understand how special Sinatra, Davis Jr. and Martin really were. He just doesn't get it. Using trashy language was bad enough... his mother was in the audience. He could use lessons on how to treat a lady. I give it 4 stars... 1 for Frank Sinatra, 1 for Sammy Davis Jr. and 1 for Dean Martin and I guess I could give 1 for Robbie for remembering the lyrics.
