This episode is a weird mix of the popular "Sonic the Hedgehog" (better known as Sat-AM as it premiered on ABC Saturday Morning) and "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" (AoStH for short).

Fans of SatAm may like this episode since Princess Sally makes a brief cameo (so brief she doesn't get a single word in), but others may be angry that the two were mixed.

AoStH fans may be disappointed to see Robotnik's Fortress on the Hill has been replaced with this boring brick fortress and a new lackey (with no name) following him around. However, Scratch and Grounder are still around and quite fabulous in this episode. Their fans will be rolling around in laughter (Sorry, no Coconuts though...). Also, Bradley Michael Pierce (voice of Tails in SatAM) voices Tails in this one (sorry Christopher Welch fans) and he is drawn more like he is in SatAm (and has the same personality).

It's your basic Christmas plot, with Sonic saving Santa from Robuttnik; but also having to preform all kinds of fantastic feats of speed and agility to obtain the power of "ultimate velocity" locked in a ring that was given to him by Sally (how convenient), and then he has to race round the world in time to save Christmas for everyone.

All in all, the pros and cons of this episode balance well, and this AoStH freak bought the video and loves it, especially the cute ending (I won't spoil that for you though ^_^). To me, it's worth buying just to see that. It's a must with anyone who has a Sonic cartoon collection. As the last complete episode shown, it's actually a pretty nice end to the series, and when it came out in 96' all the AoStH fans were excited about it. I'm happy to report most of us were pleased.

I hope you enjoy it too. September 21, 2003

This Christmas special of Sonic is based off of the not-so-much-of-a-hit "Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog" TV show... (...) At one point in time DiC decided to make one last Sonic special for USA Network (Who has for a long time not been showing cartoons). Not wanting to make a special based off one show over the other, they decided to mix them. The result: A world resembling "AoSH" with better animation (A VERY good thing), with better writting and action, and even some worthwhile charicters!

The better charicters and writting comes from "SatAM's" side (By the way, Sally from "SatAM" in this movie is also from "SatAM"), while the action mixs from goofy to dramatic! I don't think this is the best Sonic thing ever, but for once we actually have a good episode of "AoSH!" Too bad the whole series couldn't at least be a "little" like this! November 27, 2001
