About Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Live!

The late 1970s and early 1980s saw the rise of butt-kicking female rockers who followed the punk wave of the late 1970s: Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, the Go-Gos, and the Runaways, the seminal American punk band that gave us Joan Jett. Jett was a chart-topping feminist icon of the early 1980s, a tough rock & roller in leather and eye makeup, sexy and defiant and tough. Though pop-music styles may have passed her by, Jett remains a satisfying live performer, as this set reveals. Taped in 2001, the rather amateurishly shot show offers Jett blazing through a list of both her own hits and the hits of others. The songs that thrilled today's 35- to 40-year-olds when they were in high school include "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and "Do You Wanna Touch Me." Jett also displays her exceptional taste in covering everything from Bruce Springsteen's "Light of Day" to the Runaways' "Cherry Bomb" to "Love Is All Around," the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song. DVD features include a pair of videos, biography, discography, and photo album. --Marshall Fine Amazon.com

Joan Jett is an amazing musician, but she really shines live! There is this unexplainable energy that accompanies her when you see her live! She's more rough and edgy than on her CDs! It's great, and this DVD gives you a hint of this energy! I have seen her live, talked with her and even hugged her, so this is a great memorabilia for me! She sings most of her greatest hits in this DVD! October 7, 2008

rating: 4 QuoteVery good selection of Joan Jett's music!Quote
Well I'm a fan since 80's. I never had the chance to see her in concert, I even wrote to blackheart record to ask if they plan to ever come in Montreal but they didn't even answered. So for me it was my chance to see her in a concert.

If you are a fan or someone who want to discover JJ, it's a great way becauce the selection is very well made, mostly all the best songs are there. She deliver a good performance, she is great! It's filmed pretty much close, not from a far distance, so we see very well all we need to see. A fan must own the only DVD live (so far).

I would have made it 5 stars, the only thing that made me drop a star is because it's a small concert in a small place and the camera is angled pretty much often on the crowd and all you see is the same people all the time, especially (no offense) a tall guy with a white t-shirt jumping up and down in the first row from the beginning to the end of the show... this keep me to re-watch the show often.

I've been a fan of Joan Jett since I first heard her in 1980. My low rating is not a rating of her performance. This video is poorly directed and poorly cut. It's difficult to watch, and there even seem to be either some unintentional drop-outs or deliberate bleeps at a couple of points. As far as I know, it's the only recorded live performance of JJ available, so if you're a fan, you'll get it and probably enjoy it. Just don't expect a work of art. November 18, 2006

WOW - this show is awesome. Joan and the Blackhearts turn in a performance that is tight and rocks like you wouldn't believe. The setlist features tracks that span her entire career and you really couldn't ask for a better selection. Every song rocks, and the filming is excellent - none of that style where the camera is on one person for a split second and then jumps somewhere else, and then repeat, repeat and repeat... until you have a headache trying to focus. The show is watchable again and again - buy it now and ENJOY! July 25, 2006
