rating: 5 QuoteThe best, most creative show ever on TVQuote
This show had the best music by Randy Newman and Mike Post and the most creative stories.....and was all told in song. People just weren't ready for this kind of show. It was like watching a Broadway Musical every week. It was like "West Side Story" only better. Every actor could sing. The songs were clever and sharp. The lyrics were the dialogue. It was a shame that it wasn't appreciated.
Bring it back on DVD. .....and if possible....Put it back on the air.

I absolutely loved Cop Rock. I can not understand how people could not understand that it was a MUSICAL. The concept was original, the music phenomenal, the acting dramatic and enthralling. I enjoyed the show very much and could not understand the criticism. What about "West Side Story","Oklahoma" or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". Do people not understand what a musical show performance is. I feel sorry for the people who could not grasp the concept. And I want to thank the creators for making a ending that was both enjoyable and complete. I repeat "I Loved Cop Rock and can't wait to buy the DVD.
THE WORLD IS READY-BRING IT TO CABLE- HELP START A MOVEMENT NOW!!!! December 27, 2007

rating: 4 QuoteIt all boils down to the writingQuote
This show has become a legendary laughingstock, and it's sort of a shame. The pilot, with songs by the brilliant Randy Newman, was pretty good mostly, and had a few incredible moments. The "Sandman's Coming" scene with Kathleen Wilhoite was heartbreaking, unforgettable, and brilliant. And the premise, as goofy as it was, actually worked. However, with lesser talents writing the songs in subsequent episodes (with, admittedly, much less time to write them), it never recaptured that level of brilliance. But if you can get your hands on that pilot episode, it's well worth seeing. November 4, 2007

I hate to say this, but just as this show was finding it's pace, it was gone! As absurd as the consept of singing cops was, it was fun and I have to admit I loved seeing what actor could belt out a tune or not.

Let's see this puppy on dvd!!! September 19, 2007

I didn't realize this page existed, else I would have written a review before.

I've got two separate sets of this TV show on DVD (which I bought at an online auction site, and I'm sure they're illegal--but what else could I do??), but they are made from very grainy tapes and difficult to watch. I knew before I bought them that they were poor copies, but I bought them anyway, because they were from that wonderful, delightful show "Cop Rock.". How cunningly Bochco mixed humor, drama, action, and music. I was really sympathizing with many of the characters, agonizing with them over their moral dilemmas, while enjoying their musicianship.

Yeah, sure, if you don't like musicals, you won't like this series. But there are a whole lot of folks in this world who do like musicals. Bring this out on DVD and we'll buy it. Why, I'd be willing to pay $100 for a good-quality legal DVD of this series.

But please bring it out soon, because I'm getting old. It would be such a shame if I died before it happened...

Edit: Hmmm...just realized that with my name and town attached to this, the authorities have all they need to come and arrest me for possessing an illegal copy. Well, come ahead, coppers--maybe it will make the evening news, and thereby provide the impetus for the producers to dust off this marvelous series. September 1, 2007
